Some fish bite year-round
Warm waters make the Coastal Bend a great place for the avid angler. Fishing is a favorite pastime in the Coastal Bend, thanks to warm, sub-tropical waters and fish that are biting year-round. And you don’t need a boat to reel in a stringer-full. Park and walk to area piers and jetties and hang a line, often for free.
Watch closely for duck differences
Scrutiny uncovers subtle cues that make teal, redheads, pintails distinctive. At one point in my career, I couldn’t tell a redhead from a blue bill unless it bit me on the nose. And I certainly couldn’t discern one duck from another in the heat of the hunt, squinting down the barrel of a shotgun at an approaching flock.

Part of the thrill of the Tour de France, the most popular cycling event in the world, is the stunning scenery that zooms past the riders. Corpus Christi can’t boast the rugged beauty of the Alps or the finishing ride down the Champs-Elysées, but a ride down Ocean Drive is nice and the year-round temperate weather is tough to beat.
Catch the water sports wave
Corpus Christi offers a plethora of enjoyable water sports and activities such as kayaking. Whether they go for the shallow flats of the Laguna Madre, the choppy surf at Padre Island or the calm, freshwater banks of the Nueces River, kayakers in the Coastal Bend have no shortage of places to enjoy their sport.
Other oaks just can't match it
The Big Tree, near Rockport, is 90 feet across and 44 feet tall.
It's the great-great grandpa of coastal live oak trees. Known simply as the Big Tree, this tree at Goose Island State Park, near Rockport, is believed to be at least 1,000 years old - hundreds of years older than most live oak trees.
