Gardens are colorful and serene
Site offers plumeria, sensory gardens, trails that focus on birding, wetlands
The Corpus Christi Botanical Gardens, 8545 S. Staples St., is a 180-acre
site along Oso Creek that showcases colorful, exotic floral exhibits blended with
areas of native habitats and natural wetlands.
Major floral exhibits include the Orchid House, Exhibit House, Plumeria collection, Hibiscus Garden, Sensory Garden, Hummingbird Garden, Arid Garden, Rose Garden and Rose Garden Pavilion.
A "walk on the wild side" features the shaded Bird & Butterfly Trail, Palapa Grande on Gator Lake, a Wetlands Awareness Boardwalk and a Birding Tower — a Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail site.
The Visitors Center includes a gift shop and facilities for workshops, seminars and other classes. Annual events include: April~ Big Bloom! plant sale and gardening festival; Summer is Wilderness Experience Kid's Camp and Flamingo Fandango; December~ Kristie's Kringle's Garden Shoppe Open House.
The gardens offers free parking, picnic areas and a playground and is available for group tours, rental facilities and class and event scheduling.
Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday, Closed Mondays, except Memorial Day, Labor Day, & Independence Day. Also Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Year's Day. Call for holiday hours.
