8 The price of admission
Money should be no object for attending a concert in Corpus Christi, especially with so many options ranging from free to cheap.
Some venues, events and organizations to check out:
Bayfest
This year, Coolio, Los Kumbia Kings, Edwin McCain, Tracy Lawrence and The Outfield performed, for the festival's $5 cover.
The Cathedral Concert Series
Top-notch international acts play in a beautiful and historic setting for free. This season's highlights include the Vienna Choir Boys and The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble.
Centre Theater
Lots of loud punk rock, rarely more than $5.
Cole Park
Free Thursday night concerts in the summer bring in eclectic traveling performers, and seemingly random performances seem to pop up on weekend nights all the time.
Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra
While the cheapest tickets are $15 (at the edge of what we consider truly inexpensive), you won't get a nosebleed on the way to your seats in Corpus Christi, unlike the similarly priced seats in, say, Dallas or Houston.
Dr. Rockit's Blues Bar
Weekday covers are zero to $3, and weekend acts rarely try to squeeze more than $10 out of anyone.
Executive Surf Club
Perch on picnic tables or wooden bleachers to hear music ranging from really bad cover bands to acclaimed "Austin City Limits"-type singer/songwriters on the outdoor patio. Tickets for big names can run as high as $20, but plenty of local talent and up-and-comers can be heard for a mere $5.
Texas Jazz Festival
Another perennial freebie, the Jazz Festival attracts some top-notch talent and regional players for improvisational entertainment.
The Texan
A dive - and proud of it - that showcases rockabilly, punk and classic rock bands on Friday and Saturday night. The cover charge is generally $3, and if you're really cheap you can even bring in your own bottle of booze.
Zero's Hard Rock Club: Heavy metal, volume way above zero, cover usually only a little above zero.
