Rock the dog comes rolling home after 3 months in wilds of Texas

Associated Press

ABILENE - Buddy Smith is no longer singing the blues, but he's got his Rock back.
The Memphis, Tenn., dog trainer lost one of his prized pupils during a September quail-hunting trip on the 4M Ranch near Albany in mid-September.
Seems that Rock, a two-year-old English setter, got a case of wanderlust and galloped off into the great Texas unknown. Smith offered a $2,500 reward and was the subject of an Abilene Reporter-News column last month.
Albany residents Greg and Sunday Kornye found the malnourished, dirty dog at a city park two weeks ago. The couple were aware of the missing dog because of the newspaper column, but Rock was missing an identification collar.
The Kornyes called the 4M Ranch a few days later. Smith immediately made tracks for Albany and picked up the roving rover from the couple, who declined his reward offer.
How could they charge him for returning a member of the family, they asked.
``I don't think anybody ought to have to pay to get their child back,'' Sunday Kornye said.
