Steven J. Tillinger, CPA

Steven Tillinger
is a certified public accountant in Texas, with a tax practice focused on the tax issues of small businesses and professional individuals. After 16 years with two major international accounting firms, he started his own tax practice in 1991. Tillinger is a past president of the Corpus Christi Chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs (TSCPA).

In addition to his tax practice, he is a popular and frequently-requested speaker at tax seminars sponsored by local chapters of the TSCPA. He also teaches two-day tax workshops throughout Texas each fall and full-day seminars on tax issues for CPA state societies nationwide throughout the year. In 2001, Tillinger received the Outstanding Speaker of the Year Award from the Houston Chapter of CPAs.




Janet W. Tillinger, Ph.D., CPA

Janet Tillinger
is chair of the Department of Accounting and Business Law, and professor of accounting at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi.

In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate tax courses, she has published numerous articles and provided tax policy recommendations to the President's Council of Economic Advisers, the Department of Commerce, General Accounting Office, Federal Reserve Board and the government of Canada.

Tillinger has chaired the American Taxation Association's Graduate Tax Education Committee and served as a member of the editorial board of the Journal of the American Taxation Association. Currently, she serves on the Texas Society of CPAs' Blue Ribbon Task Force for Entry into the Accounting Profession.

In 2002, Dr. Tillinger received the Distinguished Faculty Award from A&M-Corpus Christi's alumni association.




Byron Wood

Byron Wood
will be the moderator for this live event.

Wood is the news anchor for the 5 and 9 p.m. newscasts for KRIS-TV Channel 6 and brings 25 years experience in television as news anchor, reporter and producer as well as host for several interview programs. He was also voted 'Best of the Best: Readers Choice' for Local News Anchor.



Wood's experience includes:

  • Media trainer for corporate executives on how to competently handle interviews with the news media.
  • Weekday prime time news anchor for KPTM-TV (Fox Network)
  • Host of The Independent Investor, a financial news program featuring interviews with the nations top financial analysts. The program was aired on CNBC, KTLA, WNYW and the USA Network and was syndicated in more than 100 television markets around the country.
  • Host of Profiles, a KYNE-TV (PBS) produced program featuring interviews with nationally prominent individuals including Washington Post reporter Carl Bernstein, consumer advocate Ralph Nader, former white house press secretary Marlin Fitzwater, Fox news analyst Juan Williams, ABC news analyst William Kriston, civil rights activist Julian Bond, NBC financial news correspondent Irving R. Levine, CNN anchor Catherine Cryer and environmental attorney Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
  • Independent contractor hired by Bozell and Jacobs to train corporate executives on how to properly handle interviews with the news media. Corporate experience also includes industrial videos produced for corporations such as Union Pacific Railroad, Mutual of Omaha insurance company and Ameritrade brokerage.
