13) "I purchased a condo in October 2000. I lived there until October 2001, when I moved to Corpus for a new job. A friend of mine agreed to move in to the condo, and I agreed to charge her only the amount necessary to cover the mortgage payment and homeowner's dues ($645). She pays the other utilities on her own. She moved in December 2001 and gave me only a partial payment since I still had belongings in the condo. I removed all of my belongings by December 28, 2001. She forwarded $645 to me for each month of 2001, and I am trying to decide how to report this on my tax return. I saw a publication indicating that if the rental is not done for a profit I should report it differently. My initial motive was just to get the condo rented out in order to avoid making the payment on my own with no motive to ""make profit."" How should I report this income? Thank you." Listen »
