On Nov. 7, Corpus Christi voters will determine the fate of a bond and sales-tax package proponents claim is the key to the city's economic future.
Bond package
The three-part $30.8 million bond package would be underwritten by a 4-cent increase in the municipal property tax rate. (That increase would add $26.91 to the annual tax bill for the owner of a $70,106 home.) The three items are:
- $5.3 million for public health and safety, including a new fire station and a police training facility
- $4.6 million for park and recreation and museum improvements
- An estimated $20.7 million for street improvements.
Sales-tax
The three proposed sales-tax hikes: one-eighth cent each for an arena, for repairs to the seawall, and for economic development.
Each voter will have the prerogative of voting for or against each ballot item on its own merits. One can vote for all of them, against all of them, or pick and choose among them.
