BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU OF THE COASTAL BEND
Mission Statement
The mission of the Better Business Bureau system is to promote and foster the highest ethical relationship between businesses and the public through voluntary self-regulation, consumer and business education and service excellence.
The Better Business Bureaus established an annual awards program in 1997 to gain public recognition for Coastal Bend businesses that maintain a solid commitment to conducting their business practices in an ethical fashion. Each year, up to three companies are selected through a competition to receive the Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Market-place Ethics. The Torch Award is designed to promote not only the importance of ethical business practices, but the willingness and efforts made by outstanding businesses to ensure that our country’s marketplace remains fair and honorable for all Americans.

Most non-profit organizations or businesses whose primary markets are local, state or federal governments are not eligible for this award. An individual may nominate the company he/she works for; owns or is affiliated with, or may nominate a company the individual does business with, or any company which the nominating individual feels meets the Torch Award parameters. A company can also be nominated by an organization (i.e., Chamber of Commerce, academic institution, ethics organization, trade association, etc.).
Torch Awards are given in the following categories: 1-99 employees, 100-999 employees, 1,000+ employees and non-metro (company not based in Corpus Christi).
The competition is judged by a panel made up of
