Kids learn things about nature and themselves on camping trip By Mark
Moore This camping trip to South Llano River State Park near Junction was an experience that will be with me and the other youths who went for the rest of our lives. Not only did we live and communicate with each other for the whole three days, but we found out things about each other that we did not know. South Llano River State Park is a peaceful place where friends and family would come to get away and familiarize yourself with Mother Nature. The stars are like a myth, filled with constellation surprises like Leo, Hercules, the Seven Sisters and more. God had a great forest in mind when he made this place. The astonishing love and realism that this place has is like a third step from heaven. Events such as kayaking, tubing down the river and hiking and biking through the outdoors were the most exciting and memorable part of the trip. The adrenaline was kept pumping all the time, because of the understanding that with wilderness and wildlife no one can ever be completely safe. The most egotistical part of the trip was when people jumping off a cliff into the water showboated for the sake of showboating. I didn’t participate and had the whole brood of people yelling and daring. I was a perfectly sane person and am more in touch with reality. The staff at the park was friendly and the coaches for the two programs who went on the trip were kind and understanding. The unity and understanding that went on was special in that two groups, 78415 Teen Media Scene and the youths from Community and Kids Establishing Success, a program at Cunningham Middle School, could collide and instead of fight, unite. © 2000, a Scripps Howard newspaper.
