Horseback
riding was amazing.
When
you first experiment on a horse it feels like you’re flying and a
little weird.

we first got to La Tierra de Caballo, owned by Bill and

Fun
but hot time
The
horse trip was very fun, although it was very hot. We took a
pony to a small arena of sand and commanded it to run around
the edge of the arena. Also we got to ride horses and trot with
them. Afterward we washed the horses.

Gibney, we learned not to walk behind the horse, now to get on the
horses and to be careful about things that might spook the horse,
making it kick around or act up. We learned to sit down on the horse
gently because that’s the first idea a horse has about how the ride
will go. There were helmets for us to wear for safety.
I have
been on a horse a couple of times. The first time I ever got on a
horse it had a fit and threw me off. This time around I was pretty
scared because of what had happened but I took a chance and got on,
and had a great time.
We did
more than ride. We split up into groups. Some rode while others saw
farrier Butch Maddox shoe a horse. We also learned how to groom a
horse and went to the corral with a pony to learn to make it listen
to us.
We also
got to see some of the teen-agers who helped us work with the horses
ride their horses and show what they do in competition. Lauren Wilkerson
showed us Western riding and Alexis Newberry made several jumps with
her horse.
That
was cool.
I hope
to ride again someday. When you get a chance to ride a horse, I hope
you enjoy it.
