The race begins on Padre Island during Beach to Bay in 2001. This year's race will break with tradition and feature a new route.

About Beach to Bay
The Beach to Bay Marathon relay is a road race that has grown from its humble beginnings in 1976 with 185 runners to 2001's crowd of 8,100 runners.

With the 26.2-mile course broken into six legs, each participant will run nearly four-and-a-half miles over very different terrain - road asphalt, over bridges, next to windy bodies of water and through a U.S. Naval base.

While nearly 100 teams will win awards, the other estimated 1,200 teams will leave Corpus Christi without a medal, but we hope with a determination to return again to our city by the Gulf for a chance to compete.

This section will be helpful for runners and their families from outside the Corpus Christi area who are looking for something to do on Beach to Bay weekend (May 16-18) other than just run in the race.
