| The race begins on Padre Island during Beach to Bay in 2001. This year's race will break with tradition and feature a new route. |
About
Beach to Bay
The Beach to Bay Marathon relay is a road race that has grown from
its humble beginnings in 1976 with 185 runners to 2001's crowd of 8,100 runners.
With the 26.2-mile course broken into six legs, each participant will run nearly
four-and-a-half miles over very different terrain - road asphalt, over bridges,
next to windy bodies of water and through a U.S. Naval base.
While nearly 100 teams will win awards, the other estimated 1,200 teams will leave
Corpus Christi without a medal, but we hope with a determination to return again
to our city by the Gulf for a chance to compete.
This section will be helpful for runners and their families from outside the Corpus
Christi area who are looking for something to do on Beach to Bay weekend (May
16-18) other than just run in the race. On the left side of the page are race
links (such as a look at a course), along with links guide to places to dine in
the Corpus Christi and entertainment you can find year round.
There's also a discussion forum to talk about Beach to Bay. You can share with others how you train, what you like about the race, or get tips on what you can do in Corpus Christi if you're a participant from out-of-town.
