TROPICAL PARADISE: The Coastal Bend’s Mediterranean climate -a combination of
tropical and arid climates - allows for warm temperatures year-round. |

71 degrees

Visitors
to the Coastal Bend don't have to worry about packing scarves, gloves or hats
- even in the winter. Instead, they can fill their suitcases with swimsuits, shorts
and T-shirts, all typical South Texas attire.
The average temperature in Corpus Christi is 71.2 degrees, according
to the National Weather Service. In the summer, temperatures range from the lower
80s to the upper 90s.
During the winter, temperatures typically range from the upper 50s
to the upper 60s.
"We have a modified Mediterranean climate, which is a combination
of a tropical and an arid climate," said Tawnya Evans, a meteorologist with the
National Weather Service. "Thus, Corpus Christians can enjoy warm temperatures
year-round."
Corpus Christi visitors also can go casual with their hair. With
an average southeasterly wind blowing about 12 miles an hour and an average humidity
level of 70 percent, ponytails are a popular 'do.
Umbrellas and raincoats aren't a must, but could come in handy, especially
during hurricane season, which is from June 1 to Nov. 1. Hurricanes have winds
in excess of 74 mph.
For general safety and protection from Corpus Christi's part tropical,
part arid climate, visitors should pack a hefty supply of sunscreen and lip balm,
along with sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat to shield themselves from the coastal
sun.
