How to choose a RETIREMENT HOME

Tips:

When looking for a retirement home, visit and consider a variety of places.

During your visit, take the time to talk with residents, visitors, housekeeping staff and not just the manager.

Be wary of places where the staff seems too busy to talk to residents or seem to discourage residents to speak their mind.

Many senior citizens don’t like to think about the time when they might need a retirement home. Fortunately there are many communities that don’t conform to the standard picture of a retirement home.

Moving into a retirement home doesn’t mean giving up your freedom and independence, and in many retirement communities, seniors can live in suites much like an apartment.

Trinity Towers and The Holmgreen Center, are examples of active, innovative, and caring retirement communities. Consider and visit variety of retirement communities. There are many different ranges of options, and it’s important to find the right home to suite your needs.

During your visit, talk with the manager and visit with residents, housekeeping staff and other visitors to the community. Ask questions about some of the offered services the retirement home provides. Communities like Trinity Towers and The Holmgreen Center offer extras like Sunday Brunch, a state-of the-art fitness room, rides to church on Sunday mornings, and many other conveniences that make living in a retirement community satisfying as well as fun.

In any retirement community, it is important to feel comfortable and at home with your surroundings. Be sure to inquire about the living arrangements - will you be sharing with someone; is the home already furnished or can you bring your own belongings.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions or voice your concerns. Remember, you want to be as comfortable and secure as if it were your own home.

Retirement homes today no longer conform to the old stereotype. If you feel uncomfortable or out of place, keep on looking.
