How to choose a MATTRESS

Tips:

Wear comfortable clothing when going to purchase a mattress. You’ll be trying out a variety of styles and need to be comfortable when doing so.

Get to know your old mattress. By doing so, you can give the sales associate a picture of the kind of support you may need in the selection of your new mattress.

Look for stores that specifically cater to mattress sales. They’re more likely to have warranties and exchange policies that will ensure you find the best mattress for your needs.

Do you toss and turn all night? Do you wake up more tired than you were before you went to sleep? It may just be your bed.

A good mattress is key to getting a good night’s rest.

We look at bedding totally differently. We look at bedding related to health, says James Perez, owner of the Mattress Firm.

Perez suggests getting to know your old bed before visiting any mattress store. Find out if your bed sags. When you wake up, do you have aches in your joints or lower back? It may indicate a lack of support or too much support. Be careful not to confuse firmness with support. advises Perez. Too much firmness can cause limbs to lose circulation.

Understanding your body alignment is another crucial factor in choosing the correct mattress. To do that, I need to know the kind of bed you’ve been sleeping on as well as the age of the mattress. Also, I have to know if you have arthritis, a hip injury or a lower back injury. If I know that, then there are certain beds that can work for you, Perez adds.

When you are ready to buy a new mattress, it is best that you look at a store that caters specifically to the sale of mattresses and only mattresses. Stores such as these often have nationally recognized warranties and exchange policies to ensure you get the perfect mattress.

The last thing you want to do is invest in a bed and then within a years time, develop a sag, which would be a lack of support, and then there is nothing you can do about it, Perez says.

One thing to keep in mind when you go shopping for a mattress is that you will most likely try out different mattresses in the store to see which one will suit your needs. Perez suggests wearing comfortable clothing, like jeans or shorts and a T-shirt.

Whatever mattress you leave the store with, you can rest assured that if you’ve done your research and tested out a variety of mattresses, you’ve found the one that will suit you the best.
