If you’ve been thinking about redecorating your home, perhaps you should consider
hiring an interior designer. But why choose a designer instead of doing it all
on your own?
There’s a variety of reasons why an interior designer would be a good expense
to budget for when redecorating. A good designer will bring with him expertise,
skill and can possibly help prevent high-cost mistakes.
"Make sure that this is a person that’s not wanting to do just everything you
want to do, but will make sure what you want to do will actually work. I think
a room design is something that needs to be appropriately put together," says
Cora Waters, interior designer for Buddy Walker Furniture.
If your redecorating turns out to be a bigger project than you anticipated, the
help of a designer can help to remove a lot of the stress you may begin to feel.
"It’s important to find a designer that you can communicate with, that’s wanting
to know your lifestyle, your needs, and what’s right for you and your family,"
Waters says.
When looking to hire a designer, consider this: Will you be able to work well
with the designer? Can they give you any references for their work?
Will you be able to see and feel what you’ll be buying for your home before you
order it? "I think it’s important to try and work with a designer that has product
that you can work with. It’s nice to be able to sit on a sofa and not just look
at a picture," Waters explains.
Also, try to work with a designer who’s been around long enough to become established
in their field. "It’s important to look at established businesses. There are so
many that will open up an office this year and next year they can be gone. If
you have problems a year from now with an area rug, that business will be gone.
Or you may be stuck half way through a project."
