How to choose a HANDYMAN

Tips:

Make sure the handyman service you hire insures its employees. This way, if an accident were to occur, you won’t be held responsible.

Find a service that does background checks of its employees.

Check to see if the service provides a guarantee to ensure that the job is done to your satisfaction.

Make sure technicians have a broad background of experience.

Do you have a leaky faucet that just won’t quit dripping? Or perhaps you just can’t find the time to give the house a new coat of paint.

If that’s the case, you just might want to hire a handyman.

"A handyman is a person, male or female, who does multiple types of jobs, whether it’s commercial or residential," says Susan Kesel, franchise owner of Handyman in Corpus Christi. "He or she can tackle anything from carpentry to light plumbing to light electrical."

When looking for a handyman service, there are some important things to keep in mind since, as Kesel says, you are literally inviting a stranger into your home.

One of the things to make sure of is that the handyman service employs bonded, insured workers.

"We’re bonded and insured. Our work is guaranteed 100 percent. If a customer is not satisfied with our work, we go out and redo it until the customer is fully satisfied. If we can’t take care of the problem, we refund all their money," Kesel says about her business.

"Within a few days after a job, I personally call the customer and make sure that what they needed to be done is done and they are satisfied with the work."

Another important item to be sure of is that the company you are considering performs background checks on their employees. "People need to understand that we do criminal background checks on our technicians. And in today’s world, they need to be careful about who they let into their home," she says.

When you get ready to sign a contract, be sure to have exactly what you want done stated clearly. This assures that everything will be done to your specifications.

So don’t let that leaky faucet keep dripping or let your house go unpainted another year. Call a handyman today.
