HOW TO GUIDE
How To Do Almost Anything
How to approach breast HEALTH AWARENESS
|
Tips:
Make sure you know what kind of service your doctor is sending you to.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions:
Are the employees that are hired competent and licensed technologists?
How quickly will you know the results or findings?
Will they send copies of your tests to your doctor’s office?
Be sure to ask questions about any procedures that will be taking place.
Ask who will be reading your results.

Breast health awareness is about maintaining a healthy lifestyle through knowledge,
self-awareness, and early detection examination measures.
The first step in approaching breast health awareness is a Breast Self-Exam (BSE)
every month, preferably around the same time each month. Learning this simple
procedure far outweighs any embarrassment you might feel in asking your doctor.
By continuing monthly Breast Self-Exams, you will know how your breasts normally
feel. If a change occurs, you should let your doctor know immediately. The most
successful treatment of breast cancer happens when you find and treat it early.
One of the most important things you can do is to be open and communicate with
your doctor. Details that you may think trivial may be vital information that
your doctor needs to know. Talking with your doctor can relieve many anxieties.
If your doctor determines that a mammogram is needed, he/she will recommend a
"screening mammogram", if you have no breast symptoms (pain, discharge, palpable
lump, etc.), or a "workup or diagnostic" mammogram, if you do. Often he also requests
an ultrasound exam.
Mammograms are the most widely used procedure for breast exams and have become
a vital tool in early detection. Dr. Nudelman, Board Certified in gynecology,
and radiology, specializing in women’s imaging and expert breast screening, stresses
the importance of experience and expertise, and employs only competent and licensed
technologists.
At Radiology Associ-ates, the patient also receives a summary of her report, with
instructions, as well.
"Often patients are intimidated by procedures and equipment. Inquire about the
age and function of a facility’s equipment. Remember, the results of your exam
are based on equipment readings as well as the person reading them." Radio-logy
Associates employs sensitive, experienced technologists and is the only practice
here offering the Computer-Aided Detec-tion System ("CAD").
Through Breast Self-Exams, regular check-ups, and annual mammograms, you hold
the key to a long and healthy life.
