Selena's stature among fans worldwide surprised even those involved in the news coverage. The April 1, 1995, edition sold out quickly despite the printing of 11,000 extras, and fans from everywhere called, seeking copies.
In the April 2, 1995, edition, two days after her death, she had a larger presence on Page One than the city election. Coverage of her funeral in the April 4, 1995, edition was accompanied on Page One only by the slayings at the Walter Rossler Co., which shocked and cast a further pall on a city already in mourning.
Como La Flor, a commemorative section in the April 9, 1995, Caller-Times, told the story of her life and death in words and pictures.
These editions have become collector's items and keepsakes.
