Fishing Help Redfish A denizen of clear, shallow waters, this bronze-colored gamefish with a distinctive spotted tail is noted for the speed and power of its fighting ability. Texas' answer to the bonefish of Florida fame, the redfish is a favorite of fly fishermen who can readily stalk and sightcast to roving individuals in ankle-deep waters. Known to gather in schools containing hundreds of fish, the redfish caught by anglers average five pounds, but commonly reach weights of eight to 12 pounds in the bays and 30 to 50 pounds in the Gulf. Protected by a three-fish bag limit, redfish are at historical high in coastal waters. Available year-round. Return to Fishing Page© 2000, a Scripps Howard newspaper. All rights reserved. |
