Under the guidance of Corpus Christi ISD Superintendent
Dr. Abelardo Saavedra, (in order from left to right) Moody's
Principal Ricardo Almendarez,
our
Assistance Principals Delia Oropez, Abel Adamez, and
Gilbert Graves, Moody has become one of the outstanding high
schools
in South Texas.
Moody students take pride in their highly educated faculty. Over 53% of the Moody Staff have a bachelor's degree and 47% have a master's degree. Moody teachers remain at Moody for an average of 14 years and for 10.4 years with CCISD.
On a more personal note, we would like to thank all
the teachers who have dedicated their time and effort to our school. We,
as students, do not realize how important teachers truly are in our lives.
Now
that we look back on our high school years, we can say that our teachers
have built the
foundation to our future. They have done more than words can say,
and we offer them our gratitude. We are also fortunate
enough to
have some of the best counselors in our area. They have guided us through
many of our problems. Thank you for your support!
Foy H. Moody High School was established in 1967 and was
refocused as a Science and Health Center in 1989 in partnership with Baylor
College of Medicine.
There are many schools
named for war heroes, religious leaders, humanitarians, and healers. The
Foy
H. Moody Science and Health Center bears the name of one person who was all
of these: Dr. Foy H. Moody, M.D. As a war hero, he was awarded the Silver
Star,
the Presidential Citation, and the European Theater of Operations ribbon
with
battle stars. He was a religious leader and preached in the surrounding
communitites. He changed his field from ministry to medicine, but never
lost his
close ties with his beloved church. As a humanitarian, Dr. Moody often
healed the
sick and the poor without charge. Dr. Moody also brought tireless
service
and gentle compassion to the School Board and to the YMCA. In
recognition of his life services, the community gathered to honor him with a
plaque,
which said. "Our recognition of your worth to your community is
accompanied with
the hope that you will always reap a bountiful return which you so well
deserve for
a life so nobly spent." Today this wish is part of our heritage and his
influence in still
among us. Foy H. Moody Science and Health Center is fortunate to have such
a name.
