Haas Foundation Scholarship
The idea for the Haas Scholar’s scholarship was conceived in March 1996 when Mr. And Mrs. Paul R. Haas came to Haas Middle School to present their annual book gift to the eighth grade class. Mrs. Portis, the Assistant Principal, asked Mr. Haas to consider giving scholarships specifically to Haas Middle School students. In February of 1997, the criteria for scholarship recipients were established by Mrs. Portis for implementation in May 1997.
1) The student must attend Haas Middle School 3 years (6th, 7th, 8th).
2) The student must be academically ranked in the top ten of the eighth grade class.
3) Yearly averages from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade will be added and divided by three to determine the top ten students.
4) Haas counselors will maintain records regarding scholastic average and class rank at Haas Middle School. 5) Haas PTA will give the scholarship recipients matted certificates of honor.
6) Haas counselors will visit the Haas Scholars at least once a year.
7) Each Fall, all local high school counselors will receive a letter from Haas Middle School identifying the Haas Scholars as well as a letter from the foundation detailing the requirements for the Paul and Mary Haas Scholarships.
8) Before the last day of January in the student’s senior year, the student must mail to the Haas Foundation a copy of his transcript and a letter requesting a scholarship application form. The student should state in this letter that he is a Haas Scholar.
9) Upon graduation from a CCISD high school with an acceptable GPA, the student must be accepted, promptly attend, and continue to regularly attend, an advanced educational institution such as a University, Jr. College, an acceptable vocational college, or similar institution approved by the Trustees of the Paul and Mary Haas Foundation.
10) The scholarship will be renewable on a semester basis (for a maximum of eight semesters) providing that the students continue to maintain a GPA as required and monitored by the trustees of the Paul and Mary Haas Foundation.
11) The scholarship is non-transferable.
12) A copy of all documents regarding the scholarship fund can be found in the Haas Middle School library as a part of the history of Haas Middle School.
