Economic council holding its annual meeting here

The Texas Economic Development Council is having its annual meeting in Corpus Christi through Friday at the Omni Bayfront Hotel. This year's program includes presentations Thursday by Texas Agricultural Commissioner Rick Perry, the Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, and State Comptroller John Sharp, the Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor.
Motivational speaker Danny Cox will give the keynote address on Thursday. On Friday a panel including Charles Matthews, chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission, and Pat Wood, chairman of the Public Utility Commission, will discuss ``Deregulation and its Impact on Economic Development.'' About 475 delegates are expected to attend, officials said. The Austin-based council is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting a positive business climate and fostering the expansion of existing industry.
