GE introduces fast, new medical-imaging system

NEW YORK - General Electric Co.'s GE Medical Systems unit has presented a new medical-imaging system, which the company says delivers faster and more detailed images of the human body than ever before.
The new scanner, called LightSpeed, uses computed tomography, or CT, technology. Developed at a cost of $60 million over six years, its uses include trauma and emergency-room situations, when speed is crucial, as well as digestive-tract procedures, spinal injuries and cancer diagnoses.
Airline will offer more mainland-Hawaii flights
HONOLULU - Hawaiian Airlines Inc. plans to expand service between Los Angeles and the Hawaiian islands of Kona and Maui.
The airline said Thursday it will offer new service from Los Angeles to Maui and Los Angeles to Maui to Kona, beginning in March 1999. The new service will increase the number of its nonstop flights between the U.S. mainland and Hawaii to 118 a week.
