Keebler is buying main Girl Scout cookie supplier

ATLANTA - Keebler Foods is buying the leading supplier of Girl Scout cookies in a deal worth $450 million.
Keebler announced Monday that it is acquiring President Baking Co., which makes cookies sold nationally by the Girl Scouts and the Famous Amos, Plantation and Murray brands.
Two years ago, Flowers Industries, Keebler's majority shareholder, purchased Mrs. Smith's, the frozen pie maker. President operates eight bakeries around the country.
Sunbeam factories spared from chainsaw treatment
Replacing the chainsaw with a paring knife, new Sunbeam Corp. President Jerry Levin has spared four of eight factories slated for shutdown, pulled two major product lines from the selling block and decentralized the top-heavy company into 17 business units.
Levin, who followed the fired ``Chainsaw'' Al Dunlap as president and chief executive officer in June, announced his strategy in a conference call with analysts and money managers Monday.
