Nissan recalls 524,000 cars for defect in wipers
From Staff Writer wire services
CARSON, Calif. - Nissan Motor Corp. on Friday voluntarily recalled more than half a million Sentra and 200SX autos built over the past four years because of a faulty joint that can cause windshield wipers to fail.
The recall applies to 524,000 vehicles, including all Sentras built in 1995, 1996 and 1997, as well as some 1998 models, the company announced in a news release.
The problem is caused by water entering a joint on the wiper arm that can result in excess wear and, over time, can cause the wiper to stop working.
Owners of affected Sentra and 200SX cars will be notified by mail by their Nissan dealers to schedule free repairs to the wiper arms.
American Airlines to buy 15 more Boeing 777 jets
FORT WORTH - American Airlines will buy 15 additional Boeing 777 jets, expanding to 34 the number of the new widebody aircraft that the airline will purchase.
Donald Carty, chairman and chief executive of AMR Corp., parent company of American, said the jets will be used to expand capacity overseas to areas that are difficult to reach because of restrictive agreements. It also will allow for retirement of the airline's DC-10 fleet, he said.Post your comments about local news eventsFront Page || Main Index || News || Business || Texas || South Texas Outdoors || Birdwatching || Sports || Entertainment || Selena || Education || South Texas Attractions || World Wide Web
