Coastal will pay $30,000 to women in bias case
From staff and wire reports
Coastal Refining and Marketing Inc. will pay $30,000 in lost wages to three women who were allegedly denied jobs at the Corpus Christi refinery because of their gender, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
The payment is part of an agreement between Coastal and the Labor Department that also required the refinery to establish an affirmative action program for hiring and promoting employees.
Coastal supplies the U.S. Defense Supply Agency with petroleum products and as a federal contractor is subject to regulations prohibiting workplace discrimination. The Office of Federal Contract Compliance in a recent review of the refinery found that Coastal had discriminated against the women in denying them jobs. The agreement is a result of that review.
Continental to fight Love Field injunction
FORT WORTH - Continental Airlines says it will appeal a temporary injunction ordered Thursday that further grounds plans for nonstop service from Dallas Love Field to Cleveland.
State District Judge Bob McCoy extended his June 25 restraining order that prevented Continental from long-haul flights from Love Field, saying he needs time to study the rights and obligations of all parties in the litigation.Post your comments about local news eventsFront Page || Main Index || News || Business || Texas || South Texas Outdoors || Birdwatching || Sports || Entertainment || Selena || Education || South Texas Attractions || World Wide Web
