Little jewels, Vermilion Flycatchers seem to glow. They are resident but hard to find. They like small ponds and private places where they fly out and back from small perches, and in breeding season males make a spectacle of themselves with a most beguiling aerial display. Sometimes one may be found in Hazel Bazemore Park, or try driving our FM 624.

Adults are large, white birds with bare red facial skin and red, down-curved bills. Flight is usually in flocks and in formation. They are more likely to be found in spring and fall, but may be present in salt marshes year round. Velero near Rockport is a good place to see them, also at offshore, island rookeries. Boat tours are available in May and June.
