The male is ethereal blue, the female warm brown. Both have heavy, seed-eating, finch beaks. Arrive in small flocks in spring migration. Packery Channel County Park is one of their favorite stopovers.
Common winter resident. This long-legged, long-billed cinnamon brown bird congregates in small flocks in cemeteries, school yards, and at Cole Park on the bay front in Corpus Christi, and on the grounds of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.
