IceRays out to end slump
Waco arrives in midst of CC's two-game skid
From staff reports
The Corpus Christi IceRays enter today's 7:05 p.m Western Professional Hockey League game against Waco at Memorial Coliseum riding its first losing streak.
In the Wizards, the IceRays face the team that handed Corpus Christi its first of two consecutive losses. The IceRays traveled to Waco Friday and dropped their first road game of the year, 5-2. Corpus Christi then battled back from a 3-1 deficit in the first period to take Austin into overtime Sunday, but the Ice Bats prevailed, 4-3.
Corpus Christi is 9-5 on the year and remains in first place of the WPHL Central Division. Waco is 7-2, and trails Corpus Christi by three points in the Central Division.
The loss to Austin Sunday was the first time any team had defeated the IceRays more than once. Corpus Christi is 0-1 against Waco.
Corpus Christi defenseman Shaun Peet, who dislocated his left shoulder on Oct. 28 against El Paso, has been listed as "day to day." According to team trainer Maurice Sicard, IceRays coach Taylor Hall and Peet will make a game-time decision on whether Peet will play today.
IceRays forward Tyler Boucher, who broke the fifth metacarpal bone in his right hand on Oct. 22 against Shreveport, will undergo an X-Ray this week to determine when he can return. Sicard said in a worst-case scenario, the forward could miss another three weeks.
The other major injury is fractured fibula bone on the right leg of Corpus Christi team captain Jody Praznik. Sicard said Praznik is listed as "week to week." The doctors are watching how fast Praznik's fibula heals.
Corpus Christi leads the WPHL in goals (67), assists (116) and points (183).
Waco and Corpus rank first and second, respectively, in the league for overall power-play efficiency and power-play efficiency while playing on the road. The Wizards also have the league's best penalty-killing unit.
Corpus Christi's Bob Quinell is among the league-leaders for scoring defensemen. Quinell has three goals and nine assists for 12 points in 14 games.
