DE LEON

Carlos De Leon, Jr., 44, of Corpus Christi, passed away Saturday, May 1, 1999.
He was a life long resident of Corpus Christi and attended West Oso High School. Mr. De Leon was a Painter.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Victor N. De Leon; grandmother, Columba C. De Leon.
He is survived by his wife, Norma De Leon of Corpus Christi; three daughters: Patricia I. (Manuel) Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, Angelica M. De Leon of Austin and Amanda De Leon (Mark) of Corpus Christi; one son, Carlos De Leon, III of Corpus Christi; two grandchildren, Israel Gonzalez, III and Norma Nicole Rodriguez, both of Corpus Christi; parents, Carlos De Leon, Sr. and Victoria N. De Leon, both of Corpus Christi; one brother, Abel De Leon of Corpus Christi.
The family will receive friends Monday, May 3, 1999 from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, Holly Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Procession will depart on Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at 9:15 a.m. from Memorial Funeral Home, Holly Chapel.
Rites of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

GONZALEZ

SAN DIEGO - Diana L. Gonzalez, passed away Saturday, May 1, 1999 at a Corpus Christi hospital after a short illness.
She was born August 2, 1927 to Silvestre and Celia Gonzalez in San Diego, Texas. Diana had a long and successful teaching career as an elementary school teacher. She graduated with a bachelor degree in elementary education from Texas A&I University, (now Texas A&M) in Kingsville, Texas. Diana dedicated her entire teaching career to the city and the people she loved so much, San Diego, Texas. She retired in 1986 with the wonderful memories of having taught hundreds of children during her career.
Diana taught CCD classes at Saint Francis de Paula Catholic Church, was a member of Duval County - San Diego Public Library Board of Directors, was board member of the Duval County Historical Commission, Texas State Teachers Association, Tri-County Retired Teacher's Association. She was inducted to the Hall of Honor of the San Diego Independent School District in 1994.
She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Silvestre Gonzalez, and is survived by one brother, Ricardo (Dr. Maria Luisa) Gonzalez; three sisters, Maria E. Trevino and Sylvia G. Rodriguez of Corpus Christi, and Bonnie (Ross) McBryde of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by seven nieces: Margot A. Lampe, Melinda Wilhelm, Cecilia T. Rodriguez, Angela Gonzalez, Celina Rodriguez, Dr. Nancy McBryde and Gloria Garcia; eight nephews: Frank S. Rivera, Omar Trevino, Norman Trevino, Arnoldo J. Gonzalez, Luis Daniel Gonzalez, Carlos R. Gonzalez, Randall McBryde and Javier Rivera.
Diana is also survived by two special friends, Juanita Gonzalez and Idolina Rios of San Diego, Texas.
A Rosary will be recited Monday, May 3, 1999 at 7:00 pm at Mauro P. Garcia Funeral Home Chapel in San Diego, Texas. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesay, May 4, 1999 at 10:00 am at Saint Francis de Paula Catholic Church in San Diego, Texas. Burial will follow at Loma Alta Cemetery at Loma Alta Community.
Pallbearers will be: Norman Trevino, Arnold J. Gonzalez, Omar Trevino, Javier Rivera, Luis D. Gonzalez, Frank Rivera, Ernest R. Garza, and Judge Ricardo H. Garcia.

ALICE, TEXAS - Juana M. Garcia, 28 years old, passed away April 30, 1999 in an automobile accident in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.
She was a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio with a B.S. in Biology. She was employed with the Texas Department of Human Services in Alice, Texas.
Survivors include: her husband, Carlos Omar Garcia of Alice, Texas; one daughter, Rosalia Lucero Garcia of Alice, Texas; father, Jose Antonio Huerta Gonzalez; mother, Atanacia Varela Garcia, both of Eagle Pass, Texas; four brothers: Jose Antonio Huerta, Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, Cesar Huerta of Dallas, Texas, George Huerta of California and Rogelio Huerta of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters: Maria Aracelli Huerta of San Antonio, Texas, Irene Olivo of Eagle Pass, Texas and Elida Huerta of Houston, Texas; her in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Carlos F. Garcia of Alice, Texas.

GUSTAFSON

Sadie Gustafson, 90, of Corpus Christi passed away Saturday, May 1, 1999, in Austin after a short battle with cancer. Born on June 17, 1908 to Robert Lee and Lillie Wheless in Austin.
"Miss Sadie" had resided in Corpus Christi for the past sixty years and was a faithful member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church of Corpus Christi and a member of Rebekah Lodge in Ingleside.
In 1940, she married Elmer "Pat" Gustafson. Sadie was a wonderful homemaker and always had a big smile and kind words to everyone who was fortunate enough to engage her warm and loving friendship over the years. She was active with her husband, Pat, in the Corpus Christi Camera Club. For many years her incredible strength and commitment to family and home inspired everyone who knew her. "Miss Sadie" was a beautiful "Southern Belle" whose kindness, love, and special presence will truly be missed. Her dedication to her work at Habeeb's Jewelry for over three decades is very noteworthy having retired only five years ago.
Sadie was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer "Pat" Gustafson, in 1989.
She is survived by her sister, Lee Wheless, of Austin; a cousin, Chester Wheless of Corpus Christi; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends in Corpus Christi and Austin.
The Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 3, 1999 at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors Downtown Chapel. HINOJOSA

Hebbronville, Tx - Alonzo Ovidio Hinojosa, age 66, passed away Friday, April 30, 1999 at his residence in San Antonio.
He was born November 14, 1932 at the Baluarte Ranch. He graduated from Hebbronville High School in 1952 and continued his education at St. Mary's University where he got his bachelor's degree in 1965 and his Masters Degree in 1971. He also served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1955 and worked at Kelly Air Force Base from 1955 til 1991 when he retired. Mr. Hinojosa continued serving his country and community as a volunteer at Kelly Air Force base.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Zelfa G. Hinojosa and a sister, Dubelsa Medina.
He is survived by: six brothers and three sisters: Odilia (John) Wong of Conroe, Jose Rafael (Estela) Hinojosa of San Antonio, Ilsa (Ricardo) Almaraz of Hebbronville, Orlando Ruben (Mary) Hinojosa of San Antonio, Jose Alvar (Esperanza) Salinas of Corpus Christi, Hector Mario (Carmela) Hinojosa of Houston, Aurora Maricela (Rene) Perez of Crockett, Israel (Isabel) Hinojosa of Hebbronville, Roberto E. (Nelda) Hinojosa of Pearland; 29 nephews and nieces and 28 grand nephews and nieces; and great grand nephews and nieces.
Rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm Monday, May 3, 1999 at the Howard-Williams Turcotte Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 8:30 am Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the new Hebbronville Cemetery.

JOHNSON

Ora S. Johnson, formally Ora S. Kratz, passed away in a local hospital on April 30, 1999. She was 72.
Ora was born on March 8, 1927 in South Saint Paul Minnesota to William S. Hazel Schaefer.
She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her three sons: Duane, John and Jeffrey Kratz, and their wives; five grandchildren and four brothers.
There will be no services.

KOENNING

ORANGE GROVE, TEXAS - Matthew Earl Koenning, 18 years old, passed away Saturday, May 1, 1999.
Matthew was born in Corpus Christi, Texas and had resided in Orange Grove, Texas all of his life. He was a senior at the Orange Grove High School, a member of St. John of the Cross Church where he was an Altar Server for 10 years. He played defensive end for Orange Grove Bulldogs 1998-1999 Bi-District Football Champions. He was an Eagle Scout and Adult Scout Leader of Troop 32 of Orange Grove and also an Ad Altare Dei Recipient.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and uncle.
He is survived by: his parents, Earl and Carolyn Koenning of Orange Grove, Texas; sisters, Melissa (Dale) Kennemer of Calallen, Texas and Melanie (Scott) Wilson of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandmother, Ella Mae (Dylla) Koenning of Orange Grove, Texas; grandfather, Walter Koenning of Victoria, Texas; aunts, Eileen (Randy) Schuette of McAllen, Texas, Shirley (Darrell) Morris of Sandia, Texas and Waldeen (Hilmar) Halfmann of Rowena, Texas; uncles, Rick Middagh of Miami, Florida and Jimmy Koenning of Orange Grove, Texas; three nieces; one nephew and 17 cousins.

TAPIA

Mrs. Mary Tapia died Friday, April 30, 1999 in a local hospital at the age of 62.
She was a saleslady at Kress Department Store.
Surviving are her husband, Reynaldo Tapia; a son, Rudy Hernandez, Jr.; a step-daughter, Kathy Tapia; three step-sons, Rey Tapia, Jr., Rafael Tapia and Roland Tapia; three grandchildren, all of Corpus Christi, Texas.

ROBSTOWN, TX - Pedro "Pete" Garcia, Sr., 59 years old, passed away Friday, April 30, 1999 at his residence after a short illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Robstown. Mr. Garcia was a self-employed Plumber for the past 17 years and owned A-Rooter Man Plumbing Co.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Graciela Garcia; parents, Ausencio and Santos Garcia; sister, Jesusa Perales; in-laws, Serapio and Guadalupe Barrera and nephews, Steven Serrata, Robert Cueva, Jr. and Ricardo "Rick" Garcia.
Survived by: his wife, Antonia Garcia of Robstown; three sons: Gilberto "Tweety" (Lupe) Garcia of Immokalee, Florida, Guillermo "Willie" (Tina) Garcia, Sr. and Pedro "Pete" (Mary) Garcia, Jr, all of Robstown; one daughter, Charelene Garcia of Robstown; five brothers: Ausencio "Shorty" (Flo) Garcia, Jr., Alberto "Beto" (Linda) Garcia, Sr. and Hector (Maria) Garcia, Sr., all of Robstown, Samuel (Elodia) Garcia, Sr. of Dallas, Texas and Roberto (Becky) Garcia, Sr. of Corpus Christi, Texas; two sisters, Luz G. PULLAM

J. Preston Pullam, 88, passed away in Cuero Community Hospital in Cuero, Texas.
He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a mail handler, where he had the opportunity to be one of only two blacks who were employed as a mail handler. He was very active in community and civic affairs and served on the Boards of Hialco and Bethune Day Care, a life member of the NAACP and a member of Gulf Coast Lodge #361, he was a member of St. John First Baptist Church where he served as an avid worker in the Baptist training union and served as an instructor in the National Baptist Congress. He also compiled two books: National Baptist Training Union Activities and Modern Baptist Church training which he co-authored with his son, the late Rev. J.C. Pullam.
Survivors include: Wife: Lazelle Pullam of Corpus Christi, Texas; two Sisters: Elizabeth Pullam and Ernestine Pullam of Goliad, Texas; a God Son: Charles Preston Pullam of San Antonio, Texas; two Grandchildren: Josiah and Janzia Pullam of Fort Worth, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Visitation hours: Monday, May 3, 1999 from 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Unity Chapel Funeral Home.
Funeral services: Tuesday, May 4, 1999, 1:00 P.M. at St. John First Baptist Church with Rev. W.L. Pullam, Pastor, officiating.

Felix H. Pumarejo, III, 47, of Corpus Christi, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 1999 in an automobile accident in Uvalde, Texas.

SLOSSON

Solon "Blackie" Guy Slosson, Sr., 83, of Corpus Christi passed away Saturday, May 1, 1999 at his residence.
Blackie was born December 19, 1915 in Corpus Christi. He was owner and operator of Blackie's Welding Works since 1946. He was a 1936 graduate of Corpus Christi High School where he played on the football team. He married Gertrude Elois Brown sixty three years ago. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Gertie; one son, Solon Guy Slosson, Jr. (Sonya) both of Corpus Christi; five daughters, Patricia Elaine Carlson (Richard) of Arlington, Priscilla Lane Hopkins (John C.) Baytown, Sandra Lee White (Lloyd) of Houston, Susanna Lynn Laurel (Willy) and Kathryn Gwynn Bailey (Frank) both of Corpus Christi; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one sister, Evelyn Blue of Sherman; and one great great grandchild.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 3, 1999 at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church, with entombment to follow at Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Memory Gardens Cemetery.

STEWART

THREE RIVERS, TX - Lonnie M. Stewart, age 90, died Saturday, May 1, 1999 in a Beeville Hospital following a short illness.
He was born in Millersview, Texas and moved to Three Rivers in 1919. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Three Rivers, and a fifty year member of the Evergreen Masonic Lodge #32 in Three Rivers.
Survivors are: his wife, Elinore Stewart of Three Rivers, Texas; two sons, Charles (Odell) Stewart of Dilley, Texas and James (Edith) Stewart of Stockdale, Texas; two step-sons, Wesley (Susan) Goldman of Bishop and Joel L. Sinor of Wasilla, Alaska; one daughter, Norma Jean Mills of Laredo, Texas; four step-daughters: Rita Jendins of San Antonio, Vivian Sinor of Dallas, Frances (Johnny) Shieve of Corpus Christi, Texas and Joyce Smith of Beeville, Texas; one sister, Ila McRoberts of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, May 3, 1999 in the First Baptist Church in Three Rivers. Interment: Masonic Graveside Services will be conducted by the Evergreen Lodge of Three Rivers, Texas in the Three Rivers Cemetery.
The family would like for the friends to make donations either to the First Baptist Church Memorial Fund or the The Three Rivers Public Library in place of sending flowers.

STOCKTON

HOUSTON, TEXAS - Joe Fred Stockton, 44, passed away at home in Houston, Texas Wednesday April 28, 1999. Joe loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Alyse Stockton of Corpus Christi; his parent, Don and Jo Nell Stockton of Houston, Texas, one brother VanKirk (LuAnn) Stockton, II of Salem, Oregon and one aunt, Bobbie Jean Evan and husband Dean. Joe will be missed by many friends.

Lorenzo T. Zavala, 71, of Robstown, passed away Sunday, May 2, 1999.
