

ASHBURN
Ray D. Ashburn, age 76, of Corpus Christi, passed away, Saturday, April 24, 1999. Ray was born June 11, 1922 in Nashville, Tennessee and grew up in Detroit, Michigan. He proudly served in the United States Navy devoting 20 years to our country before retiring from N.A.S. Kingsville as a Chief Petty Officer. During his enlistment, Ray was awarded many decorations and commendations. He received the Good Conduct Medal (4th award), Air medal (2nd award), Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal, American Theater, WWII Victory Ribbon, China Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon, National Defense Ribbon, and Good Conduct (5th award). Ray graduated from Texas A&I receiving his Masters in English, He taught at Miller High School for two years, and retired from Del Mar College after 23 years of dedication as a Professor of English. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve and was a Charter Member of St. Peters by the Sea United Methodist Church. Ray was greatly admired and loved and will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.Ray is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Lorilee F. Ashburn of Corpus Christ, TX, son: Michael Asburn of Flour Bluff, TX. Daughter: Carol (Stephan) Emmons of Kerrville, TX, sister: Ruth Miller of Tampa Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 30, 1999 at 3:00 pm at St. Peters by the Sea United Methodist Church. Interment will be held on Monday, May 3, 1999 at 2:15pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the St. Peters by the Sea Timmons Fund, 1541 Waldron Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78418.
BRALY
Alfred Ritter, 85, of Corpus Christi, passed away Sunday, April 25, 1999. He was born July 24, 1913, in Planes, New Mexico, to Porter and Eva Martha Ritter. He moved to Corpus Christi to be with an aunt in 1916, and was here during the 1919 storm. He moved to Papalote in 1928, met and married his closest neighbor, Anna Lee Johnson on November 15, 1932. They were married 66 years, 6 months and 20 days when he passed away. Mr. Ritter retired from Texas Iron Works and was a member of Norton Street Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a son, Alfred Wayne Ritter.He is survived by his wife, Anna Lee Ritter of Corpus Christi; one son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Sylvia Ritter of Corpus Christi; one brother, Lester Ritter of DesMoines, Iowa; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Mr. Ritter will lie in state in Sawyer-George Funeral Home from noon until 9 pm. Tuesday and from 9 am until service time on Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm. Wednesday, April 28, 1999, in Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Charles Boren, Minister of Norton Street Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Leonard Gunz, Steve Jackson, Bill Sharp, Bill Polars, Lott Fletcher and O.D. Riggs.

Benavides, Texas -- Rafaela Briones, 83, a lifetime resident of Benavides, Texas, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 1999 in a Corpus Christi hospital after a short illness. She was retired from the Benavides Independent School District where she worked as a substitute teacher and a teachers aide for over 35 years.She is survived by two daughters, Dora Garcia of Benavides, Texas and Dalia Solis of Houston, Texas; four sons, Frank (Evangelina) Briones and Ramiro (Minerva) Briones both of San Diego, Texas, Raymond (Irozima) Briones of Austin, Texas and Jaime (Pamela) Briones of Bruni, Texas; a brother, Raul Ramos of Benavides, Texas and a sister, Raquel Flores of Benavides, Texas; and nineteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 9:00 pm on Wednesday, April 28, 1999 at the Garza Funeral Home in San Diego, Texas. Antonio Cabriales, of Corpus Christi, passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 1999, at his residence. He was 96.He is survived by one daughter, Juanita C. Serna, of Corpus Christi, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Angelus Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, April 28, 1999, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.

Portland, Texas -- Louise Cave, 65, of Portland, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 1999, in a Corpus Christi hospital. She was born February 2, 1934, in Ardmore, Oklahoma. She was a member of the Portland Church of Christ. Mrs. Cave was a homemaker, worked many years at Commercial State Bank in Sinton, and especially enjoyed her time spent selling cars for Al Willeford Chevrolet in Sinton and Portland.She is survived by her husband, Preston Cave of Portland; three sons: David (Judy) Cave of Portland, Wayne (Sheryl) Cave of Taft, and Jim (Melissa) Cave of Calallen; her mother, Jackie Cartwright of Corpus Christi; two brothers, Gene (Patricia) Norton of Sinton and Jerry (Cheryl) Norton of San Antonio; nine grandchildren: Tracy and Alan Cave, Justin and Lauhren Skinner, Corinne, Connor, Collin, Jennifer and Heather Cave.
Visitation will be from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M. with the family present from 6 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. Wednesday in Sawyer-George Funeral Home.

EDROY, TEXAS -- Carlos C. Dominguez, 71, passed away Monday, April 26, 1999, in a Corpus Christi hospital following a sudden illness.He had been a resident of the Edroy and San Patricio Co. area for over 60 years. He was the owner of Dominguez Trucking in Edroy.
Survivors include his wife, Ofilia B. Dominguez of Edroy, Texas; six sons and daughters-in-law, Albert and Katie Dominguez of Corpus Christi, Rene and Mary Jane Dominguez of Pasadena, Carlos and Madie Dominguez, Jr., Benjamin and Esmeralda Dominguez, Daniel and Belia Dominguez and Jaime an Silvia Dominguez, all of Odem; one daughter and son-in-law, Noelia and Jesse Lopez of Robstown; three brothers, Leno Dominguez, David Dominguez and Lucio Dominguez, all of Odessa, Texas; five sisters: Andrea Nunez of Edroy, Cruz Martinez of Levelland, Texas, Rosa Dominguez of Odessa, Lorena Dominguez of California and Olivia Hernandez of Hereford, Texas; 23 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 28, 1999, at the Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel.

Aransas Pass, Texas -- Mary Kieberger Fortner, 79, passed away on April 27, 1999 in a Corpus Christi hospital. Mary was born in Aransas Pass, Texas on June 7, 1919 to William and Grace Kieberger and has been a life long resident of Aransas Pass, Texas. She was a member of St. Mary's Star By The Sea Catholic Church in Aransas Pass, Texas and was the Past Vice President of the First State Bank in Aransas Pass, Texas.Survivors include one brother, Bill Kieberger (Evelyn) of Canyon Lake, Texas; two sisters, Grace Kieberger of Houston, Texas, Peggy Martin (John) of Houston, Texas; three nephews: Bill Kieberger Jr. (Glenda) of Houston, Texas, Vince Martin of Houston, Texas, David Martin (Cathy) of Kerrville, Texas; one great nephew, Michael Martin of Kerrville, Texas.

HARMON
Frank W. Harmon passed away, Sunday, April 25, 1999 at the age of 90 at the home of his daughter in Dickinson, Texas. Frank was born in Neosho, Missouri on April 26, 1909. Frank moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he spent most of his youth. After graduation from high school he went to California where he designed theater and movie sets. Frank came to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1930. He married Bernice Timon in 1932.Frank served as sales manger of the Ice Cream Division of the Borden Company until his retirement. Frank's design talents were seen in most of the local drug store fountains during the 1940's and 50's. After his retirement Frank continued to design commercial building fronts and signs. Frank was a member of the Downtown Optimist Club and spent many years helping Boy's City. He served as President of the Optimist Club in the 1960's. Frank loved to fish and play golf having achieved a hole-in-one. He was best known for his storytelling. He will be remembered for his gentleness and wonderful sense of humor which he never lost. His talents and stories will continue to live through his children and grandsons.
Frank is survived by his wife of 67 years, Bernice (Timon) Harmon; two daughters Ann Ray of Corpus Christi and Sue Bown and husband Rodney Bown of Dickinson, Texas. Frank has five grandsons: Jeffrey Ray and John (BB) Ray both of Austin, Paul Bown, M.D. of Huntington, West Virginia, Nicholas Bown attending Medical School at Ross University in Dominica, West Indies, and Jason Ray of Corpus Christi. Frank has one great grandson Justin Ray of Austin. Frank is survived by his beloved sister, Fleta Tankel of Galveston, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are to be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday April 28, 1999 at Rose Hill Memorial Park with Msgr. Richard Shirley officiating.
MENDOZA
Rogelio Mendoza, 38, passed away Monday, April 12, 1999 in a local hospital.He was preceded in death by his father, Rosendo Mendoza, Sr. and maternal grandmother, Petra G. Canales.
Survivors include his mother, Oralia F. Mendoza, stepfather, Juan M. Martinez; six sisters, Mary (David) Hertzler, Sheri (David) Yanez, Sr., Joanna (Henry) Cisneros, Veronica Flores, Elena Ortiz, Kristie M. Martinez; three brothers, Ruben (Jeanne) Mendoza, Rosendo (Amy) Mendoza, Jr., Jose (Paula) Salinas, III: three nieces, Adrianna, Victoria, Marlena; five nephews, Chris, Gabriel, Lorenzo, David, Alex; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A memorial mass will be celebrated at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, April 28, 1999 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.

William Carroll Ochse, aged 65, passed away Monday, April 26, 1999 at a local hospital.William was a member of the IBEW Union, Local 278 for over 40 years. He was a loving husband, father, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his daughter Carol Jean Ochse, his mother, Myrtle Inez Lawson, and his father, Albert William Ochse all of Corpus Christi, Texas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Barbara J. Ochse; one son, James A. Ochse (Karen) of Corpus Christi; one sister, Betty Binniker of Houston, Texas; two grandsons and two granddaughters.

STANLEY
Corpus Christi -- Henry M. "Hank" Stanley passed away April 24, 1999 in a Corpus Christi nursing home. He was 93. Mr. Stanley was born June 5, 1905 in Justin, Texas to Ewing and Parthenia Stanley. He attended Oak Cliff High School in Dallas.Most of Henry's work background was "oil patch". He was associated with Magnolia Petroleum, Cole Petroleum, Rodney DeLange, McEvoy and Rockwell-Evoy. Mr. Stanley was an "old hand" at the oil field business, really enjoyed his work and was well known from Houston to the Valley, from Corpus Christi to Laredo.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley were charter members of Parkway Presbyterian Church, in Corpus Christi. He had been a deacon and an elder of the Parkway Presbyterian Church. Mr. Stanley was quire active in Boy Scout activities when his son, Don was of scouting age. He was an avid gardener, and made the annual white wing dove hunt to the Valley. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 72 years and was a 33rd degree Mason and a member of the American Institute of Mechanical Engineering, and American Petroleum Engineers.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Ernestine Ray Stanley of Corpus Christi; his daughter, Imogene Stanley Vetters and her husband, Thomas F. of Bryan-College Station, Texas; his son, Don Howard Stanley and wife, Judy Hailey of Corpus Christi; seven grandchildren: Eleanor Vetters Schuler and husband, James A., Clare Imogene Vetters, Thomas F. Vetters, II, Rachelle Stanley Omundson and husband, Paul Michael, Wade Hailey Stanley and wife, Dannetta, Camille Ray Stanley, and Nathan F. Stanley; also by five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to the time of service at Holmgreen Mortuary, Thursday, April 29, 1999.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 AM Thursday, April 29, 1999 at Roselawn Memorial Park in Alice with Dr. David Evans pastor of Parkway Presbyterian Church officiating.

Manuela A. Torres, 66, passed away on Monday, April 26, 1999 in a Corpus Christi hospital after a long illness. She was a lifelong resident of Robstown and was a member of St. Mary's Choir and Club Padres de Familia.Mrs. Torres was preceded in death by her husband, Baldemar "Balde" Torres.
Survivors include one son, Baldemar A. (Angie) Torres; three daughters: Terry Gonzalez, Becky (Pete) Ibarra and Norma Jean (Ramiro) Martinez all of Robstown; two brothers, Vicente Aguilar of Robstown and Antonio Maldonado of Kingsville; one sister, Francisca Rodriguez of Robstown; 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Joe M. Trevino, 69, of Corpus Christi, passed away Saturday, April 24, 1999.Rites of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 1999 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

WIZOREK
SANDIA, TEXAS -- Mr. Lewis S. Wizorek passed away on April 25, 1999 at the age of 84 years in a Corpus Christi hospital. He was born on December 7, 1914 in Granger, Texas.He was retired from the Corpus Christi Army depot. He started his career in Aircraft maintenance at Randolph Field, Texas. He helped set up maintenance departments for Army Air Corps primary flying schools at Spartan School of Aviation in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. he also worked for Lockheed Overseas Corporation in Belfast, Northern Ireland, getting fighters and bombers ready for combat during World War II.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and playing dominoes, and was an enthusiastic sports fan. In his younger years he played semi-pro baseball and later coached Little League, Pony league and Teenage League baseball. He was a devoted Astro's Fan and never missed a game on radio or television.
He married Mary Alice Steffens on October 7, 1939. He was preceded in death by his wife. He is survived by one son; James "Skip" Wizorek of Freeport, Texas; one Daughter Jo Lynne "Jodie" Benys of Corpus Christi, Texas; one granddaughter, Shannon and husband Sam Vinson of Brazoria, Texas; one great granddaughter, Shanay Vinson of Brazoria, Texas and one sister, Laura and husband Bill Dolezalek of Collinsville, Texas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on April 28, 1999 at 2pm at the Dobie Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation will follow.
