BENDER

Evlyan Barroso Bender passed away January 18, 1999. She was born to Frank and Nora Hermann Barroso on September 25, 1925 in Houston, Texas. She was a 1943 graduate of Jefferson Davis High School in Houston, Texas and a 1965 Business College graduate in Corpus Christi, Texas. Mrs. Bender retired from D.W. Pickett Oil and Gas after 22 years as an office manager and bookkeeper.
She is survived by a half-sister Gloria Mireles of Spring, Texas.
Interment will be at Seaside Memorial Park. Services will be private.

BALDESCHWILER

Caroline "Carrie" Rachal Baldeschwiler. The hand of God reached down and relieved his servant Caroline from her suffering Monday evening, January 18, 1999 at the age of 75. Caroline Agnes Baldeschwiler was born February 17, 1923 in White Point, Texas to the parents of Christopher Pryor Rachal and Elizabeth Mary Odem.
Caroline was the youngest of 11 children from a farming and ranching family with a deep rich history in the San Patricio County, dating back to the 1850's. Besides being a loving mother and homemaker, Caroline held various jobs through the years working as a bookkeeper for several banking institutions, including Parkdale Bank.
Caroline was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, M.F. Baldeschwiler in 1976. She is also preceded by five sisters; Esilla Wagner, Adeline Hickey, Margaret Harney, Florence White, Leacy Dittman, and four brothers; Dave, Christopher, Jules, Randolph Rachal.
Caroline leaves behind a very large family who will miss her very much. Sons, daughters and spouses included David (Marianne) Baldeschwiler of Corpus Christi, Patrick (Wanda) Baldeschwiler of Waxahachie, Texas, Matthew (Rania) Baldeschwiler of Boerne, Texas. Daughters include Margie (Chris) Schubert of Portland, Texas, Margaret "Peggy" Baldeschwiler, Mary Kay (Gary) Hill both of Corpus Christi and Virginia (Todd) Achee of Ingram, Texas.
Grandchildren are: Amy, Julie, Kyle Baldeschwiler, Brenda Cantu, Kim Terry, Brandon, Brent Baldeschwiler, Jeremy Hill, Jeffery and Carrie Achee and Lauren Schubert. Great grandchildren are; Evan Cantu, Brittany and Natalie Bray, and Emily Austin Terry. One sister Mrs. Billie Grime, and numerous nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Thursday, January 21, 1999 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Gary Hill, Todd Achee, Chris Schubert, Joe Harney, Steve Grime, Jimmy Hickey, Randy White, and Randy Rachal.
Honorary pallbearers will be, Brandon, Brent and Kyle Baldeschwiler, Jeremy Hill, Jeffery Achee.
A special thanks to the loving and caring staff of Sunnybrook Health Care Center for taking good care of Caroline in her times of need.

CUTHRELL, III

V. Camp Cuthrell, III, 53, of Portland, passed away January 17, 1998, of complications from head injuries. He was born November 23, 1945, in Dallas to Dr. V. Camp Cuthrell, Jr. and Betty Park Cuthrell. He grew up in Beaumont, Texas, where he graduated from Beaumont High School. He graduated with honors from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee, where he was president of Phi Gamma Delta and a member of the Order of Gownsmen. He received his juris doctor degree from St. Mary's Law School where he was Editor-in-Chief of the St. Mary's Law Journal as well as a member of Phi Delta Phi, the Phi Delta Phi Outstanding Freshman, and the Phi Delta Phi Outstanding Graduate for Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma. After law school, he was honored to be the Briefing Attorney for Chief Justice Robert Calvert of the Supreme Court of Texas for two years before beginning practice with Andrews & Kurth in Houston. In 1976, he relocated to Corpus Christi and has been a respected commercial and personal injury trial attorney here since that time, most recently as a partner in Cuthrell & Cuthrell.
He was a brilliant, gentle, funny and caring man who loved sailing, hunting, camping, rock climbing and history. Although he loved the law and was active in various community activities and charities, his primary focus was always his home and family and he was a doting father and beloved husband. He was extremely involved in the lives of his young sons and was proud to coach the GPSA under-10 "Yellow Jackets" soccer team last Fall and looked forward to coaching in the future.
Camp is survived by his wife, Tamara, his young sons, Benjamin and Dillon, his adult sons, Camp (Jennifer) and Richard, his granddaughter, Catherine Camp Cuthrell, his mother, Betty Cuthrell of Beaumont, his sister and brother-in-law, Claire and Rob Slaymaker of San Francisco, his nephew, Christopher Slaymaker, his cousins Terry Dalton and Bob Park of Houston, his "Aunt Pete" Park of Houston, and his godmother Callie Wilson of Beaumont. He was greatly loved and will be missed always.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 22, at First United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi. In the spirit of Camp's love of and belief in our legal system and Constitution, donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Civil Liberties Union, Coastal Bend Legal Services or donor's preferred charity.
Honorary pallbearers are John Landrum, Susan Cashman, Ruben Welsh, Julio LyBrand, Mike Hogue, Robert Hurst.

GARCIA

Falfurrias - Adelina P. Garcia passed away in a Kingsville hospital on January 18, 1999 at the age of 93.
She was preceded in death by her husband Amado, sister Dora Ambriz of Houston and brother Horacio Phillips of Falfurrias.
She is survived by her son Amado and wife Pamela of Houston; daughter Sylvia Jones of Houston, daughter Delia and husband Pete Martinez of Falfurrias; grandchildren: Gary Jones and wife Cissy, Mike, Jayne and Amy Garcia, Pete, Sandra, Isabel (Max), Marcie, and Carlos Martinez; great-grandchildren Jessica and Stephanie Campbell, Brianna Garcia, Emily, Alison and Audrey Jones, Max and Jonathan Figueroa, Brittany and Blake Garcia.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 21, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment to follow at the Falfurrias Burial Park.
Pallbearers will be Gary Jones, Mike Garcia, Pete Martinez Jr., Guile Longoria, Alfonso Mirelez and Ralph Guerrero.
Arrangements are under the directions of Howard-Williams-Turcotte Funeral Home of Falfurrias.

GARZA

Concepcion "Cy" Garza, 78, of Corpus Christi, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 1999 in a local hospital. He was born on December 22, 1920 in Asherton, Texas. Mr. Garza was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II in which he received two Purple Heart's, the American Theater Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Ribbon, one Service Stripe, and four Overseas Service Bars. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Cy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Evarista Garza of Corpus Christi, Texas; three daughters: Maria (Paul) Garza of Corona, California, Rosemary (Vic) Bowlick of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Norma Garza Chandler of Houston, Texas; six sons: Roy (Yolanda) Garza, Abel Garza, Johnny (Carmen) Garza, Tommy (Elaine) Garza, Robert (Mary) Garza, and Terry (Debroah) Garza all of Houston, Texas; one brother, Perfecto Garza; one sister, Natividad Negrete, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; 28 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren.
Public visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 21, 1999 at the Angelus Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that evening.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 22, 1999 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.

JOHNSTON

George Stewart Johnston, 75, passed away January 19, 1999 in a local hospital.
He worked for the Kraft Co. for thirteen years.
George is survived by his sons, Greg Johnston of Sinton, Texas, Mark David Johnston of Garland, Texas, and Steve Johnston of Corpus Christi, Texas; four grandchildren, Sonny Lalumia, Alisa Lalumia, Greg Johnston, Jr. and Etta Michelle Johnston; two great-grandchildren, Preston Lalumia and Brianna Johnston.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm Thursday, January 21, 1999 at Seaside Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, January 22, 1999 in the Seaside Chapel.

LEONARD

Mrs. Rev. Ted Leonard Nee Marjorie Jenkins of Fredericksburg passed away in the Hill Country Memorial Hospital on Monday, January 18, 1999 at the age of 88. She was born on September 29, 1910 in Houston, Texas and was a homemaker. She was the wife of Rev. Ted Leonard a Methodist Minister in Fredericksburg and Center Point, Texas.
Mrs. Marjorie Leonard is survived by two sons and their spouses; Ted and Nancy Leonard of Virginia, Dick and Deanne Leonard of Corpus Christi, Texas, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The body will lie in state in the Chapel of the Schaetter Funeral Home in Fredericksburg until 12:15 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 1999 and from 1:00 till 2:00 p.m. in the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church with funeral services at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Larry Altman officiating.
Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Fredericksburg, Texas.

LERMA

Dora V. Lerma, 80, of Corpus Christi, was called by our Lord on Monday, January 18, 1999 after a long illness.
She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be dearly missed by those whose lives she touched. Born in Corpus Christi, second eldest to 11 brothers and sisters, Dora spent all of her life in a city so beautifully named after her religious convictions.
She attended local schools, and finished her education at Corpus Christi High in 1937.
She married soon after and mothered two sons, Noe and Armando. Both sons entered the military and relocated in California. Dora remained in Corpus Christi and found a pleasant life with both brothers and sisters.
Dora spent most of her working years as an aid to handicap children. After retirement, Dora relocated within the city.
She was an active member at the St. Joseph's Parish. She was given recognition for supporting Veterans of Foreign Wars (for the disabled). Having her sons in California, she made frequent visits there. She took with her the love that was shared both in Texas and California.
In August of 1993 she was stricken with a massive stroke and was never able to recover. With the loving aid of a younger sister, Edna Elizalde, Dora was able to enjoy life for six more years. Dora always found a need to be there for those she knew. The Lord now calls to be there for her.
At bedside, her sisters and families called her sons to return to be here to say a final word of love. Dora finally decided that the Holy Spirit was waiting for her to call to return to His side. On January 18, 1999, Dora answered.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Felix and Isabel Villanueva; sister, Mary V. Garcia; three brothers, Felix R. Villanueva, Fred R. Villanueva and Tony R. Villanueva.
She is survived by two sons, Noe V. (Cecilia) Lerma of Roseville, California and Armando Lerma of San Dimas, California; four sisters: Edna V. Elizalde and Celia Saldana both of Corpus Christi, Consuelo Delgado and Vidala Luevano both of Azusa, California; two brothers, Willie R. (Mary) Villanueva of Seabrook, Texas and Pete R. (Carmen) Villanueva of Corpus Christi; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, January 21, 1999 at Memorial Funeral Services, Crosstown Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Procession will depart at 10:00 a.m. on Friday from Memorial Funeral Services, Crosstown Chapel.
Rites of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 22, 1999 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be: Noe V. Lerma, Armando Lerma, Willie R. Villanueva, Pete R. Villanueva, Tino Vasquez, and Roland Alvarez.

SALINAS

Dora Gandy Salinas, departed from this earth January 20, 1999. She was born January 29, 1926 in Tampico, Mexico.
She is survived by: her loving husband of 54 years Octavio Salinas Jr.; one son Fernando Salinas of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three daughters, Dora Salinas Whipple, Cyndi Ymbert, and Patricia Salinas Perez all of Corpus Christi, brother Guillermo Gandy of Mexico; two sisters Mavis Gandy Gonzalez of Mexico and Maggie Gandy Rodriguez of San Antonio; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home at 1:00 pm till 9:00 pm with Rosary at 7:00 pm January 21, 1999. The Funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm January 22, 1999 at Memory Gardens Funeral Home with interment to follow at Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy can be made to the St. Peter Catholic Church Youth Organization.
