AMAYA

Ofelia (Ofie) G. Amaya went home to our Lord, January 2, 1999. She was born October 1, 1966, in Arlington, Texas to Leonor and the late Teodoro Gutierrez Jr. She takes with her twin angel babies, Joseph and Mary.
Ofie delighted in spending all her free time with Alex, Claire and her family, especially her nephews and nieces. Nightovers at her house was a favorite for them. Ofie was a very special ray of sunshine in the lives of so many. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, sister, aunt and loyal friend. When our Lord called Ofie home to him she was surrounded by her family and friends. We will miss her but will never forget her and we will keep her in our hearts forever. Ofie was employed at the Child Development Center on board Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, for ten years.
Ofie was preceded in death by her father, Teodoro V. Gutierrez, Jr. and sister-in-law, Mendee Leigh Amaya.
She is survived by the one love of her life, her loving husband Alejandro (Alex) Amaya, Jr., and their baby daughter, Claire Leigh Amaya; her mother Leonor Guerra Gutierrez; her parents-in-law, Alejandro and Yolanda Amaya, all of Corpus Christi; four brothers: Teodoro (Gloria) Gutierrez III, Jose Luis (MaryLou) Gutierrez, Carlos (Michelle) Gutierrez, all of Arlington, Texas, and Jimmy (Terry) Gutierrez of Robstown; seven sisters: Yolanda Cisneros of Greeley, Colorado, Virginia G. (Vikki) Gutierrez, Maria T. (John) Medina, Marina Y. (Mimi) Gutierrez, Leanna M. Gutierrez, Yvonne Gutierrez, all of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Alma R. (Israel) Mirabal of Belton, Texas; her sister-in-law, Imeida Edna (Gonzolo) Montoya of Corpus Christi, Texas; 21 nieces and nephews: Angelique R. Gutierrez, Judy Cisneros, Deanna Cisneros, Fransesca M. (Miguel) Martinez, Jose L. (Brenda) Gutierrez, Jr., John A. Medina, Jr., Adam G. Gutierrez, Christopher A. Medina, David Cisneros, R. Jacob Mirabal, Elizabeth R. Mirabal, Veronica C. Medina, Michelle Mirabal, Aaron Evans, Ryan Evans, Teodoro S. Gutierrez, Joseph Gutierrez, Jenna G. Gutierrez, Shawn Michael Montoya, Brandon Montoya, Lindsey Montoya, and Mendee Leigh Montoya; two great-nieces, Mariah Martinez, and Zoraida Gutierrez, and one great-nephew, Avery Cisneros; numerous loving family members, and many beloved friends, especially Sallie Bullard, Isabel Loya, Alex and Laura Montoya.
The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., Monday, January 4, 1999 at Robstown Memorial Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 4, 1999, at Robstown Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Rites of Christian burial will be recited at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 5, 1999, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Robstown Cemetery.
It is their true honor that her nephews be her pallbearers: Jose L. Gutierrez, Jr., John A. Medina, Jr., Adam G. Gutierrez, Christopher A. Medina, R. Jacob Mirabal. We would like to thank Dr. Stephen Barth and most especially the many medical professionals from Columbia Doctor's Regional and are most grateful to the many nurses in the ICU Ward for their care and support during Ofie's short illness. A special thanks to the many friends and co-workers from the NAS CDC that stood vigil with us, your prayers and support are truly appreciated. BARTLETT

Evered A. Bartlett born on August 16, 1916 of Corpus Christi and Dallas, Texas. A retired optician and branch manager for American Optical Company, son of Allen Joseph Bartlett and Fannie Mae Allen (Bartlett) of Grand Saline, Van Zandt County went home to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 2, 1999. He was 82.
He married Evelyn L. (Ragsdale) Bartlett in Dallas, Texas on September 16, 1939. He was married for 56 years until her death on July 26, 1996. For 50 years (1931-1981) he served with American Optical Company. Mr. Bartlett began his career with AO as a 15-year-old errand boy in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Bartlett advanced to shop technician and optician (a maker and dealer in optical items and instruments including the service of grinding spectacle lenses to prescription order as well as the dispensing of spectacles). In 1953 Mr. Bartlett became branch manager in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was a member of Lindale Baptist Church since 1953. At age 26, Mr. Bartlett became a member ot the Texas Defense Guard (Military Forces of The State of Texas, a precursor to the Texas Homeguard and The Texas National Guard). Mr. Bartlett supervised Blackout Drills in Dallas, Texas during World War II. Mr. Bartlett was a beloved Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Brother, and Friend. He will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by two sons, Richard E. Bartlett and Allen C. Bartlett of Corpus Christi, Texas; two sisters, Lucien B. Jarrell, and Vera Hendricks of Gilmer, Texas, three grandchildren, Breedette Darwent, Tiffany Locke, Brett Bartlett; five great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Jeremey, Samantha, Paige and Jillian.
Visitation was held from 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 3, 1999 at the Seaside Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, January 4, 1999 at the Seaside Funeral Home Chapel.
Entombment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.

Katherine J. Burt, 76, of Corpus Christi, passed away Sunday, January 3, 1999 at her daughter's residence. She was born to James and Celia Jackson on April 17, 1922 in Huntsville, Texas.
Katherine Burt is survived by her son, Murray G. (Elaine) Burleson of Houston; her daughters Brenda G. (J.C.) Scott and Dena K. (Robert) Pierce, both of Corpus Christi; five grandchildren: Jason Scott Evert, Heather Rene Acuna, Jeremy David Ebert, Angela Faith Pierce, and Matthew Jacob Pierce, all of Corpus Christi; one great-grandchild Megan Nicole Acuna of Corpus Christi; three sisters, MaeDelle Wilson and Doris Roach, of Houston, Nell Barton of Dallas; two brothers, William Jackson of Huntsville and Johnny Eugene Jackson of Dallas.
Mrs. Burt was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow W. Burt.

Skidmore - Anton (A.J.) Fojtik, 92, passed away Saturday, January 2, 1999, in a Beeville nursing center. He was born in Czechoslovakia on April 29, 1906. He was a retired farmer, resided in Skidmore the past 18 years, Mathis prior to that.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Angeline Fojtik; two daughters, Evelyn (Gus) Smejkal, and Dorothy (Mike) Huser, all of Beeville, Texas; three sons: Darwin (Mildred) Fojtik of Mathis, Texas, Emil A. Fojtik of Skidmore, Texas, Raymond (Hattie) Fojtik of Sinton, Texas; two sisters, Janie Lalla, and Vlasta Cervenka, both of Granger, Texas; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Rosary will be recited at Dobie Funeral Home Chapel at 7:00 pm, Monday, January 4, 1999.

Esperanza Garcia, 84, of Corpus Christi, was united with her heavenly father, Sunday, January 3, 1999.
She is survived by her children: Liley (Robert) Garcia, Maria (Manuel) Rodriguez, Pascual (Gloria) Ledesma, Thomas (Ruby) Pantoja, and Robert (Laura) Garcia; 20 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren.

ALICE, TEXAS - Eulalio Garza, III, 30, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 1998, in Robstown, Texas, when the vehicle he was riding in was struck by a train. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on January 7, 1968, and had lived in Alice, Texas all his life.

William T. "Bill" Harris, Jr., 76, of Corpus Christi, passed away on Friday, January 1, 1999 in a local hospital. He was born on December 12, 1922, in Corpus Christi to W.T. and Myrtle Nolte Harris. Mr. Harris graduated from Corpus Christi High School and was a lifelong member of All Saints Episcopal Church. W.T. was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army and served overseas in India where he met his wife, Doreen. Bill was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise in 1996.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Doreen Harris of Corpus Christi; two sons, William Terry (Linda) Harris III of San Antonio Texas and Gordon Fuller (Rose) Harris of El Paso, Texas; one daughter, Valerie (Tom) Hebert of Corpus Christi; six grandchildren, Christopher, Jason, Shawna, Andrew, Aaron and Karen; his mother-in-law, Bette Fuller of Cardiff, South Wales.

Eusebia C. Olivo, 83, of Corpus Christi, passed away January 2, 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Fidel Olivo, Sr., and a son, Ricardo Olivo.

REBECEK

James R. Rebecek, Sr., age 60, of Dubina, Texas passed away Saturday, January 2, 1999, in Weimar, Texas. He was born December 26, 1938 in Lane City, Texas. He retired in 1995 after 22 years with the San Patricio County Sheriff's Department. Prior to Sheriff's Department service, he served three years active duty and three years reserve duty in the U.S. Military.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Cernoch Rebecek of Dubina; sons and daughters-in-law, James R., Jr. and Donna Rebecek of LaGrange, Texas, Raymond J. and Stacy Rebecek of Robstown, Texas, Ronald J. and Jennifer Rebecek of LaGrange, Texas; grandchildren Meredith, Elizabeth, Shelby, and Jeremy Rebecek; father, James Rebecek of Yoakum, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Virginia Rebecek of Corpus Christi. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edith Rebecek.

SMITH

Della Steward Smith, 88, of Corpus Christi, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 1999 in a local nursing home. She was born on September 7, 1910 in Van Buren County, Arkansas. Mrs. Smith grew up in Sapulpa, Oklahoma and married Edward H. Steward, Sr. in 1931 and moved to Corpus Christi in 1942. She was a beloved wife, homemaker and mother.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward H. Steward, Sr. and her second husband, Arnold A. Smith.
She is survived by one son, Edward H. (Nancy) Steward of Corpus Christi; one sister, Vera Bauer of St. Cloud, Minnesota; two brothers, Vern Hughes of Sapulpa, Oklahoma and William Hughes of Broken Arrow Oklahoma; three grandchildren, Martha Steward Baudean of New Orleans, Louisiana, John Edward Steward of Portland, Texas, and Sarah Steward Greenley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three great-grandchildren, Katherine Elizabeth Steward, Michael Baudean, and Aiden Steward.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 1999 at Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal with Reverend Frank Fuller officiating. Graveside services will be held at Restwood Memorial Park in Lake Jackson, Texas.

TAYLOR

John Lee Taylor, age 77, passed away Saturday, January 2, 1999, in a Port Arthur, Texas hospital. He was born January 4, 1921 in Crosbytown, Texas, spent his formative years in Aransas Pass, Texas, and moved to Beauxart Gardens, Texas in 1972.
He was an engineer, employed by Caspary and Wendle of Rockport, Texas. After moving to Beauxart Gardens he was employed by Moran Towing of Port Arthur, Texas as Port Engineer until his retirement in 1983.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, five brothers, one sister, and one daughter.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Lee Taylor of Beauxart Gardens; two sons, John Lee Taylor, Jr. of Golden, Colorado and Michael Taylor of Woodbury, Minnesota; one daughter, Barbara Lynn Nacol of Henderson, Texas; one sister, Oma Eubanks of Lubbock, Texas; mother-in-law, Rafela Bates of Beauxart Gardens; three grandchildren, and 15 nieces, nephews, and their families.
Visitation will be at Pat Riley Funeral Home in Nederland, Texas on Monday, January 4, 1999 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., where family will be available.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 5, 1999, at Beauxart Gardens Baptist Church, with Reverend Jimmy Robbins officiating under the direction of Pat A. Riley Funeral Home.
Burial will be at 3:00 p.m., January 6, 1999, at Prairie View Cemetery in Aransas Pass, Texas, with Reverend Dan Sanford officiating.
