The Lexington Museum on the Bay

The Lexington Museum on the Bay is a 910-foot aircraft carrier, which was commissioned in 1943 and decommissioned in 1991.

It was moved to Corpus Christi in October 1992. Now a museum, the Lexington, or Blue Ghost as her crew used to call her, is home to at least 19 restored airplanes, educational exhibits and several historical collections.

Many visitors catch their first view of the Lexington from the Harbor Bridge, which offers a panoramic view of the ship with the Corpus Christi skyline in the background.

The museum itself is on Corpus Christi Beach, and the route to it is marked by several signs.

From Memorial Day to Labor Day the museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thereafter, hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily except Christmas. Admission is $9 for adults, $4 for children and $7 for senior citizens and active or retired military.

Upon entering the museum, you can choose from five self-guided tours. Visitors can inspect the flight deck and bridge, the foc'sle or the forecastle, the captain's and admiral's quarters, the sick bay, the engine room and the hangar deck.

Guided tours are available through the special events office. The guided tours costs $25 per tour guide with a limit of 15 people per tour.

The aircraft are located on the hangar and on the flight decks. Some aircraft include a World War II SNJ Texan, a Korean-era McDonnell Banshee and an F-4 Phantom.

In addition, there is now a fully restored F-14 Tomcat, an AH-1 Cobra gunship and a T-28 Trojan.

The museum is handicapped-accessible.
