Lubbock H.S. won't take retest
Associated Press
Decathlon cannot decertify results
LUBBOCK - Brainy bragging rights are on the line in court for two Texas schools on opposite ends of the state.
Both Lubbock High and Pasadena's J. Frank Dobie High have claimed victory in the Texas Academic Decathlon. The winners get $1,200 apiece for college; second place is worth $800 each.
A judge in Lubbock ruled Wednesday that the TADA could not decertify its results that declared Lubbock the winner and could not require Lubbock to participate in a rematch that had been ordered by a Houston judge.
The retest was set to begin this morning in San Antonio. TADA spokesman Jimmy Wynn said he assumes Dobie will be there.
Jack Clemmons, Lubbock superintendent, said Lubbock students wouldn't participate.
