Detainee says he's citizen
One of the 300 prisoners the U.S. military is holding in Cuba claims he was born in Louisiana to Saudi parents and is an American citizen, a Pentagon spokesman said Wednesday. The claim, if true, could lead to his transfer from the detention center at a Navy base.
U.S. officials did not identify the prisoner.
New Afghan army
After a six-week crash course in crowd control, patrolling and emergency first aid, the first 600 troops of the new Afghan army strutted their stuff Wednesday in front of interim Prime Minister Hamid Karzai.
U.S. won't turn over official
The United States has no intention of turning over a recently captured al-Qaeda official to another country for interrogation by brutal means, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said Wednesday.
The United States is holding Abu Zubaydah, called a top deputy to Osama bin Laden, at a location that will not be disclosed.
