Islanders Evans, Hamilton net All-Independent honors

Texas A&M-CC basketball players named to Division I team
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Brian Evans and Brian Hamilton represented the Islanders on the All-Independent basketball teams announced Wednesday.
The awards were voted on by the basketball coaches and sports information directors at the nine NCAA Division I independent schools.
The Islanders' leading scorer as a sophomore, Evans was honored with first-team accolades, while Hamilton, the squad's top rebounder and second-leading scorer, grabbed second-team honors.
Evans averaged 13.5 points, 3.3 assists, 4.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Evans had 19 games of double-figure scoring, including a career-best 31-point effort against Pan Am.
Hamilton finished his second season averaging 12.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and a team-best 2.1 steals per game.

Islanders softball earns split with Texas Tech
LUBBOCK - Maggie Ayers went the distance on a five-hitter as Texas Tech defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 2-0 in the second game of a doubleheader, Wednesday. The Islanders blasted Texas Tech 8-2 in the opener.
The Red Raiders, which upped their record to 11-27, got all it would need in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Tiffany Harrington.

G-P sweeps 30-4A tourney
PLEASANTON - Led by individual medalist Shannon Cahill's two-stroke victory, Gregory-Portland cruised to a 41-shot win for the District 30-4A girls golf championship on Wednesday.
G-P's boys slipped past Pleasanton by two strokes for the team title.
Wynkel medals at ski event
Corpus Christi's Bryce Wynnkel won a gold medal at the 2002 NASTAR Ski Racing National Championships on Saturday in Park City (Utah) Mountain Resort.
Wynnkel, who competed in the male 65-69 age bracket, raced four times in two days, finishing with the top time out of the 10 skiers in his age group.
