SWEATER WEATHER MEANS HIGH FASHION

This fall's hottest sweater set combines a sleeveless turtleneck or cowlneck shell with an ankle-length sweater coat, almost like a bathrobe. Luckily for those of us living in warm climates, the sleeveless sweater and cut-out armholes are high fashion.
Drapey and oversized cowl necks fall to the side to reveal a shoulder or to the front to bare decolletage. Sweater jackets, with lengths that fall anywhere from right below the hip to just above the knee, provide an alternative to structured jackets and blazers.
Lush and plush cashmere is the material of choice for sweaters, but in the warm Gulf Coast climate, cashmere and silk blends are usually more comfortable.

CORSETS SHAPE UP FOR OUTERWEAR DEBUT

Hold on for one of the year's hottest trends: the corset - as outerwear.
The look is sexy and stylish and works as well with a worn pair of blue jeans and sandals as with a fancy ball skirt and heels. The new designs often come with zippers, and many come with Lycra for added stretch and comfort. These are not the corsets of the Elizabethan era.
"We're seeing corsets worn quite a bit on the street as tops. Women are wearing them with a great pair of black pants or a pair of jeans. They are also being worn under suits," says Amy Vick, public relations specialist for Victoria's Secret.
And here's the part we love: They really do transform a woman's body.

A STRING OF PEARLS TO LIGHT UP DAY, NIGHT

If diamonds are a girl's best friend, pearls could be dubbed a girl's favorite second cousin. The one she may call on only occasionally but is always happy to see.
As Kathy Silverberg, sales consultant at Dillard's, puts it, "Pearls are classic. They never go out of style."
But today's pearls offer even more.
"This fall especially," says Jennifer Lavis, spokeswoman for Jacobson's, "pearls are available in updated styles that have made them a fashion statement. Those 12 millimeters and larger are particularly popular in an 18-inch length that lays around the neck, a style reminiscent of Jackie Onassis."
And then there's the trend toward color. According to Lavis, pearls in shades of champagne and white mix well with the season's warm colors.
