Rene Ortiz, 37, a Corpus Christi native, owns and manages Craig's Record Factory in Moore Plaza. Ortiz's hobbies include playing the guitar, writing and recording pop music, and doing aerobics. He collects Mexican wrestling masks, and owns about 30 of them.
Q: Who is your biggest fashion influence?
A: David Bowie. He wore suits like the red one in the video "Never Let Me Down." He's always been able to change his look regardless of his age. I like to modernize the new romantic look of the mid-80s. Recently in Dallas, I bought a shiny blue pair of pants with smeared red paint on them - like someone grabbed a paintbrush.
Q: What is something you wouldn't be caught dead wearing?
A: Just a regular pair of blue jeans. I think they're uncomfortable. Everybody wears them, but I just can't see myself in them.
Q: Who are some celebrities with great style?

Ortiz advises men to dress their best from head to toe. And that means presentable and polished leather shoes. He recently picked a pair of stilettos for his girlfriend, Lori.

A: Jerry Rivera, a solo salsa singer, and Ricky Martin. Jerry Rivera utilizes different types of materials in his shirts. He adds extra accessories such as ruffles. Ricky Martin's clothes are tailored to fit him. Most guys tend to buy things that are oversized.
Q: What do you own in excess?
A: Shirts. I have between 30 and 40. Every time I go out of town, I pick up a shirt of some kind - vinyl, mesh, leather or lace.
Q: What's your favorite shirt?
A: A Dolce & Gabbana shirt that my girlfriend bought me this past March for $300. It's a white and gold lace button-up shirt with long sleeves. She bought it at Saks Fifth Avenue in San Antonio. I wear it to salsa shows and when we go out to Planeta Mexico in San Antonio.
Q: Fashion advice for men?
A: No matter what men think, women like guys who dress nice. Can the baggy shirt and pants, and quit showing the underwear. It's a two-way street, because guys want their women to dress nice, too.

Q: Do you help anyone shop?
A: I help my girlfriend, Lori Tubbs, match clothes when we shop. She bought a pair of stiletto Sole Provider see-through shoes lined with an iridescent blue trim that I saw in Dallas. I had first seen them and then I took her so she could see them.
Q: What item gets you the most compliments?
A: My watch. It's an Android watch that I bought in Dallas three years ago for around $65. The band is a silver link and the face is iridescent green. You can see your reflection in it.
Q: Any items you regret not buying?
A: An off-white textured linen shirt with crocheted buttons. The sleeves flared out to a point. It cost about $300 at Saks Fifth Avenue.
Q: What's your most outrageous item?
A: A black, see-through lace shirt with fringe at the bottom. When I go to the clubs, people ask me where I got it. The shirt gets enough attention by itself, so I wear it with solid color pants.
Q: What did you wear back in the 80s?
A: I wore a bunch of different colored suits - green and maroon. I also used to wear eye shadow, scarves and broaches. I've always looked for elegance.
