'GODSPELL' AT DEL MAR

|
Performers of 'Godspell' during rehearsal at Del Mar College Bartlett Theater.
|
For the first time in 10 years Del Mar's drama department will stage a musical that involves singing, dancing and acting. "Godspell," the one-time Broadway hit and now high-school staple that tells the story of Christ's life, will run through Nov. 11 at the college's Bartlett Theater. While based on the Gospel according to Matthew, the show focuses on human behavior and morality and examines the human aspects of Christ's life, according to director and professor Kim Frederick.
For its production, Del Mar set the musical in a second-hand shop, where John the Baptist has asked Jesus's followers to gather. During the course of hearing about the teachings of the Savior, his followers find clothing that represents them and their struggles as individuals and devotees.
Tickets are $8. Call 698-1509 for more information.
