THE SCOOP: Tonight's matchup marks the official start of the new Central Hockey League, formed last May by the merger between the Western Professional Hockey League and old CHL. . . . The Iguanas and IceRays each played two exhibition games last week, with each team splitting their series. S.A. defeated Austin 3-2 last Saturday, then was dumped by the Ice Bats, 5-4, the next day. Last Friday, the IceRays held on for a 6-5 win over the El Paso Buzzards, who then posted a 2-0 victory in Sunday's rematch. . . . F Jeff Paluseo was the high-point man in the IceRays' preseason win, finishing with two goals and three assists (five points). Alex Kholomeyev had two goals, while Mike DeGurse and Cory Evans each had one. . . . Mareks Jass and Joe Gray each had two goals in the Iguanas' series against Austin. G Jason Fricker, who earned the win Saturday against the Ice Bats, was traded Monday to the Oklahoma City Blazers for an undisclosed amount of cash.
