Austin rallied from a one-goal deficit with three goals in the second period to post a 5-2 victory over the Corpus Christi IceRays Saturday night at Memorial Coliseum.
It was Austin's second win in as many nights over the IceRays (2-6-3, 7 points), and pushed the Ice Bats' winning streak to five games. Austin improved to 9-2-0 (18 points).
The IceRays went on its first power play twenty seconds into the game. Layne Roland took a pass and skated around the back of the net for a wrap-around, but Bryan McMullen trapped the puck against the post to stop play.
It wasn't long before Corpus Christi went back on a power play after a slashing penalty against Austin's Dan Price. This time the IceRays were able to capitalize, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Ryan Davis at the 5:10 mark.
Both teams continued to battle on offense until the Ice Bats were able to break the Corpus Christi defense for a goal by Price at 15:04 in the period.
With 2:27 left before the first intermission, the IceRays regained the lead Jeff Paluseo's second goal of the season.
Austin provided all the offense in the second period.
Corpus Christi spent the first two minutes chasing the Ice Bats through its own zone. Goaltender Hugo Hamelin dumped the puck behind the net, but Austin got to it first and scored on a goal by Tab Lardner to tie the game, 2-2.
The Ice Bats continued to pressure Hamelin and took their first lead of the game at 12:29 on a goal by Ryan Anderson. Less than four minutes later, Ryan Pisiak scored his first goal of the season to give Austin a 4-2 advantage.
In the third period, Ian Larocque passed to Gerald Tellaire on a breakway, leading to a goal at 11:30 that put the Ice Bats up by three goals.
