IceRays sign six from last season's team

By Javier Becerra
Caller-Times

As the search for a new head coach continues, the Corpus Christi IceRays have already begun to piece together next season's roster.
The IceRays announced the signing of seven players Wednesday, including six from last season's playoff team.
"Even though we don't have a head coach, these guys are committed to winning a championship," said Taylor Hall, who last week stepped down as head coach to become the franchise's general manager.
"We don't want to take a step back," Hall said. "We certainly weren't happy with the way things ended last season, and we don't want to start from scratch. The team has a fine future, and this is just the next positive step for us."
Leading the list of returning players are veteran defensemen Jamie Hearn and forward Dustin McArthur.
Hearn spent five seasons in the Western Professional Hockey League with Waco and Fort Worth before arriving in Corpus Christi. He was the only player to play in every game last season, and finished with 48 points (13 goals, 35 assists). In the playoffs, Hearn scored one goal and had three assists before the IceRays were eliminated in five games by the Tupelo T-Rex.
McArthur, who will be returning for his third season with the IceRays, finished with 34 points (12 goals, 22 assists).
Joining Hearn on defense will be Mario Dumoulin, a five-year veteran who joined the IceRays last season after one year with Huntsville in the Central Hockey League. Dumoulin finished with 31 points (six goals, 15 assists).
Also back are forwards Jeff Cheeseman and Jeff Paluseo, and goaltender Brad Erbsland, all rookies with the IceRays last season. Cheeseman, who joined the team in December, finished with 29 points (15 goals, 14 assists), while Paluseo added 21 goals and 12 assists. In 13 games, Erbsland gave up 3.66 goals per game and finished with a .889 save percentage.
The IceRays also signed rookie forward Robby Boisson of the University of Saskatchewan.
