QUICK CHAT
Although the name Robert Duncan McNeill might not sound immediately familiar, how about Starfleet Lieutenant Tom Paris, the proud officer from UPN's "Star Trek: Voyager?"
Even though "Voyager" is coming up on its season finale in two weeks, McNeill is still very busy. He's no longer in his Starfleet uniform (the crew finished production work a couple weeks ago); currently he's playing a drug dealer in a flick about infested killer bugs.
Always the versatile actor, McNeill shared his tastes with us.
CD: 'O Brother Where Art Thou' soundtrack featuring various artists. "It's great music, and the Coen brothers are wonderful."
Book: 'The Day Lincoln Was Shot' by Jim Bishop. "It's a nonfiction book about the 24 hours before and after Abe Lincoln was shot. It's an old book, but it's wonderful and detailed and great."
Film: 'Memento' written and directed by Christopher Nolan. "It was an intense movie, and I really liked how it played with your brain!"
OVERHEARD
Southern California punk rockers Guttermouth, in town for the May 8 Punk-O-Rama show at the Centre Theater, spent a night on the town the evening before their show. Members decided to settle in at Dr. Rockit's for a sizable chunk of after-daylight hours.
Though the blues bar isn't exactly the type of place you'd expect to find a bunch of punk rockers, the two schools of music apparently struck a harmonious chord. "We didn't really know it was a blues bar, but no one knew we were a punk band, so it all worked out," said Guttermouth guitarist Derek Davis.
ENTERTAINMENT BRIEFS
MANSON TO CANCEL
Shock rocker Marilyn Manson, who was accused by some of influencing Columbine High School gunmen Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, has been asked to cancel a Denver appearance this summer.
The church-affiliated group Citizens for Peace and Respect says Manson promotes violence, hate and drugs, and should not spread his message in Denver.
DISNEY'S THIRD PARK
The Walt Disney Co. will seek approval from the Planning Commission to start the application process for a third theme park in Anaheim Calif.
The 78-acre park could include up to 3,350 hotel rooms, as well as retail, dining and entertainment, parking and transportation facilities.

WEB SITE OF THE DAY
www.obscurestore.com
An interactive site in the vein of News of the Weird, The Obscure Store provides story capsules and links to stories (often in legitimate newspapers) about wild and crazy happenings around the world. Recent headlines include "Boy, 5, dies while fleeing First Communion brawl" and "Reporter sues library for $1.5 million after cat attacks his dog." Web master Jim Romenesko, a new-media maven at the prestigious Poynter Institute, browses the nation's media every morning to find such treasures.
