Suspicious item evacuates Alice High School again
For the fifth time in five days, Alice High School was evacuated Friday morning, but not because of a bomb threat. Alice police called for the evacuation after noticing something suspicious. Lt. Luis Barrera said police would not reveal what was seen.
"We don't want to alarm the public and we don't want the scenario to duplicate itself," he said. "The bottom line is we won't take any chances on kid's safety."
Although Barrera said officers found nothing, students were sent home for the day.
Officers with a bomb-sniffing dog have been checking the school in response to a rash of recent bomb threats. A 25-year-old Alice man is in FBI custody and a 14-year-old alternative high school student is in a Rio Grande City detention center after being arrested on Wednesday in connection to bomb threats.
