Powerlifters take gold at state meet

South Texas trio excel at weekend’s U.S.P.F. championships

KILLEEN - Three South Texas powerlifters won gold medals in their respective divisions last weekend at the U.S.P.F. state powerlifting championships.
   Amber Schulze, a student at King High School, won first place in the 132-pound teen class by lifting a total of more than 513 pounds in the squat, bench press and deadlift competitions. Charles Bryant won the men's 308-pound masters division by setting all new personal bests in the three events. And John Fowler, the reigning WPL world powerlifting champion, won first place in the men's 275-pound Open division by squatting 740 pounds, bench pressing 440 and dead lifting 705.
   He had a meet-best 1,885 total pounds, and also won the Best Lifter award.
   All three lifters were representing Ironhorse Gym in Corpus Christi.
