Islanders shut out Eagles in 9-0 tourney stomping

SACRAMENTO, CALIF. - Katie Evans drove in three runs and Amanda Burton provided her strongest pitching performance of the year to pace Texas A&M-Corpus Christi to a 9-0 win over Morehead State on Friday in the Islanders' third game of the Capital Classic Tournament.
Evans and Shelley Oetken combined for seven of the Islanders' 11 hits in the victory over the Eagles. Evans went a perfect 4 for 4, which included two doubles, while Oetken went 3 for 5 and drove in two runs.
A&M-CC, which added one in the second and fifth innings, blew the game open with five scores in the seventh. Oetken plated two runs with a single, while Evans drove in her third run with her second double of the game. Serena Ochoa drove in a run with a groundout to third.
Earlier in the day, Tara McClure pitched a three-hitter and Keola Calderon drove in four runs to lift Louisville to a convincing 8-0 victory over the Islanders. The game, which was slated for seven innings, was stopped on the count of the eight-run rule.
The Cardinals, now 18-8 on the year, added to their 1-0 lead in the second inning thanks in part to a three-run triple by Calderon. Louisville closed the game out with four runs in the bottom of the sixth, an inning highlighted by a three-run double by Candi Padilla.
McClure surrendered just three hits and fanned eight batters over six innings en route to the victory.
Melanie Drews went the distance for the Islanders and suffered the loss.
