Spring duties: This new cleaning product really helps get dirt out of grout
By Rosemary Sadez Friedmann Scripps Howard News Service
One of the toughest things to clean is grout. Getting down on hands and knees with a toothbrush and a lot of elbow grease often leaves us tired and without very good results. Grout is porous so dirt and grime penetrate it and it seems that once the dirt gets in, it never wants to come out. Particularly difficult stains are those caused by coffee, tea and wine. And does the dog get overly excited when you come home? Yes, those stains are also very difficult to remove.
There is a product called Grouty, of all things, and it is great at getting rid of grime and stains from grout whether the grout is on the floor, on the counter or on the wall. I also kills organic bacteria.
It will still take a little scrubbing because of the nature of the grout, but not as much as with most other grout cleaners. Plus, there is a stand-up grout brush available and even a lightweight electric floor scrubbing machine for extra large jobs. But you always should test one tile before scrubbing too vigorously; some polished stone floors might not do well with heavy scrubbing.
The price is even good; just pennies per square foot. Compare that to the normal professional charge of up to $2 per square foot and - well, you do the math.
For more information, call (888) 684-9144 toll free, or go on the Web at www.gogopowder.com.
After the initial cleaning, you might want to have the grout sealed. For that you would have to call in a professional. Sealing the grout will make it stay clean for at least a couple of years, depending on use and the color of the grout.
