Hetzel takes gold in San Antonio
   Corpus Christi swimmer Tom Hetzel struck gold at the Texas State Long Course Masters championship meet at the San Antonio Aquatic Center this past weekend. The senior swimmer claimed the top spot in all five of the races he entered.
   Hetzel was also selected as the Outstanding Master Swimmer in Texas for long course masters at the event. He competing in the 800 freestyle, the 200 butterfly, the 400 individual medley, the 1500 and the 200 breaststroke.
   Hetzel, who was the only competitor to win five gold medals at the event, says he lost close to 25 pounds for this competition.
   "It paid off," he said. " I was just using what god gave me, no equipment. I can't top that . . ."
   The next stop for Hetzel will be the southwestern Zone Championships in Austin, where he will be swimming against rivals from all over Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
