QUICK CHAT
Who: Carlton Pride
Pride
|
Claim to fame: Carlton's band Zion Reggae performed last Friday and Saturday at Ballyhoo's in Port Aransas, and his father Charley is the only black member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Wonderful CD: I've been listening to Stevie Wonder's "Talking Book." It could have been put out today and still been a hit - that's what I like about it. Mostly I'm into classic R&B and rock 'n' roll - anything before disco I love.
Religious reading: I've been reading a book called the "The Tao of Pooh." It examines Winnie the Pooh, plus all the other characters, and shows that Pooh (acts like) a Taoist monk, and shows the Taoist traits in each one of the characters.

NO LONGER GROOBEE
Citing personal reasons, the beloved Amarillo alt-country band the Groobees have parted ways after six years of touring and recording together. A popular act in the area, the band is best known for penning "Wide Open Spaces," which later became a hit for the Dixie Chicks. Former Groobees lead singer Susan Gibson will perform with a new band at what was to be the Groobees' Aug. 2 Cole Park concert.
CONTESTANT FILES SUIT
LOS ANGELES - A former "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" contestant has sued producers and ABC, hoping to return to the game show after he missed what he alleges was a faulty $16,000 question.
Richard Rosner wants damages of more than $1 million in the Superior Court lawsuit filed Tuesday.
The question Rosner missed was, "What capital city is located at the highest altitude above sea level?"
La Paz, Bolivia, is the world's highest capital, but Rosner said La Paz was not one of the four choices he received.

Organizers of the concert, which is being dubbed Aftershock, hope to raise $5 million for quake relief.
WEB SITE OF THE DAY

Egads! Before you think about heading off to the University of Delaware to pursue your Master of Fine Arts degree, take a look at the requirements. Besides the classes, students have to submit to a faculty review after their second semester, stay in good favor with their individual graduate committee, and stage a retrospective exhibition of their work and write an essay defining their "artistic intent." And then there are all those frat parties to attend . . .
